Women’s Soccer Wraps up Four Game Homestand Sunday against FDU

BURLINGTON, Vt. – Vermont (1-1-2) will host FDU (0-2-2) at Virtue Field on Sunday, Sep 1 in their annual Youth Day Presented by Healthy Living. Kickoff is slated to start at 1 p.m. and the game will be broadcast live on ESPN+ with Brian McLaughlin on the call. Sunday's matchup with FDU concludes an early four game homestand for the Catamounts.

YOUTH DAY PRESENTED BY HEALTHY LIVING
  • Sunday's matchup with FDU will be the Catamounts annual Youth Day presented by Healthy Living. Kids 12 and younger will be granted free admission upon arrival while tickets last. We will have lawn games, face painting, bounce house, arts and crafts and more surrounding Virtue Field starting at 12 p.m.
  • Sunday is also Poster Day presented by UVM Print and Mail. Stay after the game and the team will be signing autographs in the Virtue Field concourse.
 
VERMONT OUTLOOK
  • Vermont has spread the wealth through the first four games of the season with five different goal scorers. Bailey Ayer leads Vermont with three goals, including one game winner against Saint Anselm. Ayer recorded a goal in three straight games for the first time in her career. Lauren DeGroot is second on the team in points with three after registering a goal against Saint Anselm and an assist against UConn. Freshman Farrah Yaacoub scored her first career goal against Saint Anselm and Sophomore's Emma Warren and Aubrey Bough each tallied their first career goals, Bough against UConn and Warren versus Boston University. Midfielders Jill Brody, Sydney Remington, and Elizabeth Sommeling each have recorded an assist for Vermont as well.
  • This season Vermont is 1-1-1 at Virtue Field, having a relatively consistent showing, scoring five times while surrendering five goals. The Catamounts defeated Saint Anselm 3-0 on Aug. 21, tied Boston University 2-2 on Aug. 25, and loss to Colgate 3-0 on Aug. 29.
  • Vermont ranks second in the America East Conference in total goals scored, having totaled seven so far this season.
  • Ayer remains amongst the top players in the America East Conference, ranking first in goals per game (0.75), and total Goals (3), while ranking second in points per game (1.50), shots on goal per game (1.75), and total points (6).
  • Vermont returns four America East All-Conference members from their 2023 squad, Kate Bossert, Bailey Ayer, Maddy Cronin, and Bridget Kennedy.
  • Vermont was picked to finish fifth in the America East 2024 Women's Soccer Preseason Coach's Poll.
 
SCOUTING THE KNIGHTS
  • FDU was voted to finish second in the Northeast Conference 2024 Women's Soccer Preseason poll. The Knights earned one first place vote.
  • The Knights will be bringing back three All-NEC team players to their 2024 squad. Midfielder Katia Cardaba, midfielder Andre Ougaard, and defender Ana Salas.
  • Last season, Vermont defeated FDU 1-0 on the road in Teaneck, New Jersey. Bossert scored the game winning goal in the 81st minute to give the Catamounts its first ever victory over the Knights.
  • UVM holds a 1-1-1 all-time record against FDU.
