Women’s Basketball Set to Battle Binghamton on The Road in Saturday Showdown

Vermont (15-7, 7-1 AE) aims to extend its current string of victories as they continue their road trip when they face Binghamton (8-13, 3-5 AE) on Saturday (Feb. 3) at Dr. Bai Lee Court in Vestal, N.Y. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. and will be broadcast live on ESPN+

Saturday's matchup with the Bearcats will be broadcast live on ESPN+. Vermont enters Saturday's matchup after knocking off the top seeded UAlbany team, handing the Great Danes their first conference loss of the season, and ending their 14-game winning strak. UVM is now tied for first in America East, halfway through conference play. The Catamounts are second in the conference in scoring defense surrendering just 53.0 points per game, which is ranked fifth in the country. UVM is third in the conference in scoring margin at +5.4 per game. The Catamounts are second in field goal percentage (43.0) and second in opponent field goal percentage (38.1). Vermont is just one of three teams with two scorers in the top 10 in scoring in America East (joining Maine and Bryant). Utterback ranks sixth in the conference averaging 15.1 points per game. Olson is ninth in the league in scoring at 11.5 points per game while leading the conference in shooting percentage at 57.1 percent per game. Olson is also eighth in rebounds per game at 6.1 per game and fifth in total rebounds, having 135 on the season. Vito ranks 10th in the conference in total rebounds, earning a total of 121 so far this season. Utterback is eighth in the conference in shooting percentage at 44.6 percent per contest and is first in the conference in assists at 4.6 per game and leads the conference with a total of 101 assists on the season. The Catamounts are second in the conference in blocked shots per game (3.9) and second in total blocks this season (86). The Catamounts are the only team in the conference with three players in the top 11 in blocked shots with Olson (eighth), Richason (ninth) and Priede (11th). Olson and Richason are tied for sixth in total blocks, having 20 each.
 
SCOUTING THE BEARCATS
Binghamton enters Saturday's matchup with an 8-13 overall record (3-5 AE), while being 3-2 in their last five games. The Bearcats are averaging 63.0 points per game on 42.0 percent shooting from the field and 34.4 percent from beyond the arch. On the defensive side of the ball, Binghamton is allowing 63.3 points per game on 42.4 percent shooting and 32.1 percent from the three-point line. The Bearcats are registering 6.0 steals and 2.6 blocks per game. Redshirt sophomore guard Ella Wanzer and grad student guard, Denai Bowman, lead the Bearcats in scoring at 11.1 points. Redshirt sophomore guard Jadyn Weltz leads Binghamton in assists at 4.5 per game (95 total) while also leading the team in rebounds with 5.1 per game and is fourth on the team in average scoring at 10.8 per match.
 
INSIDE THE SERIES
This will be the 46th matchup all-time between the Catamounts and the Bearcats, with Vermont holding a 28-17 advantage. The first time these two teams met was in 2002 in Vestal, New York where Vermont earned a 71-51 victory. This season, the two teams have already met once on January 18 with Vermont defeating Binghamton 51-38. In that game, Olson led the team with 11 points and corralled five rebounds. Utterback finished with eight points, six rebounds and two assists. Vermont shot 40.0 percent in their first matchup this season while holding Binghamton to just 32.1 percent shooting and 9.5 percent from deep (2-of-21).
