Women's Basketball Falls on the Road to Minnesota

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Anna Olson had 14 points as Vermont (1-1) fell to Minnesota (2-0) on Friday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The two teams traded buckets in the opening five minutes as the Catamounts took a 12-10 lead into the first media timeout. Olson led the charge with six points.
  • The Golden Gophers finished the first quarter outscoring Vermont 7-5, with Annika Stewart scoring four of the seven points.
  • Vermont opened the second quarter on a 9-0 run, with Olson, Malia Lenz, and Sarah Ericson all contributing.
  • Minnesota closed the half on a 12-2 run, with Lenz getting the Catamount's last bucket. The Gophers had five different scorers on the run.
  • The teams were even coming out of the half, with Minnesota taking a five-point lead in the third media timeout. Olson, Catherine Gilwee, and Keira Hanson chipped in with buckets.
  • The Gophers pulled away at the end of the third, outscoring Vermont 13-3 with Gilwee and Ericson hitting free throws.
  • Nikola Priede hit the first two buckets of the fourth quarter to close the gap to 13.
  • Minnesota outscored the Catamounts the rest of the way, 14-7. Hanson, Gilwee, Lenz, and Piper Risdon scored in the final stretch after the last media timeout.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Olson's 14 led all Vermont scorers, with Lenz's career high of 10, the second most.
  • Lenz also had a career-high of two three-pointers, with Gilwee and Hanson being the others to make one.
  • Ericson led the Catamounts on the boards, collecting five, with Olson and Hanson second with four each.
  • Risdon's free throw with eight seconds left was her first collegiate point.
