COACH'S QUOTE
"We were pretty happy with the number of opportunities we created today and our execution to convert three quality goals," said Head Coach Kristi Huizenga. "I thought we moved the ball well and were very selfless and patient in the attacking third which is what the game was calling for. UMBC also has some very dangerous attacking players, and our midfield and backs remained disciplined and dealt with them well."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Catamounts pounced first just 2:46 into the opening half when Jill Brody went to work in isolation, maneuvering her way down the short side of the field where she crossed the ball to a waiting Bossert inside the box. Bossert finished the play with her right foot, pinning her shot top left on the UMBC goalkeeper, earning Vermont the early 1-0 advantage.
- UMBC bounced back in the 12th minute when Annie Grove and Misa Kasparcova set up Natasha Munro in front of the net for a tap in goal, knotting the score at 1-1.
- Vermont regained the lead in the 21st minute when Brody connected with Ayer, who sent a cross to the middle of the box finding an open Bossert, once again, burying her shot with her left foot this time, placing her shot in the low right corner for her second goal of the game, earning the Catamounts a 2-1 advantage.
- Ayer extended the Vermont lead, 3-1, with 1:34 remaining in the first half after dancing away from her defender, streaking up the short side of the field and unleashing a rifle of a shot with her right foot once entering the box, pinning her shot in the left corner of the net for her ninth goal of the season, earning Vermont the two-goal cushion.
- No goals were scored for the entirety of the second half as Vermont came out victorious over UMBC on Sunday from Virtue Field.
