FINAL SCORE: Vermont 0, UMass Lowell 2
BURLINGTON, Vt. – Vermont (7-4-3, 2-3-0 AE) fell to UMass Lowell (2-9-2, 1-3-0 AE) 2-0 on Sunday afternoon on the road in Lowell, MA. Despite the Catamounts outshooting the Riverhawks 22-11 and seemingly earning more possession time with the ball, two goals in the opening half by UMass Lowell was the difference, as the Riverhawks secured their first conference win of the season.

COACH'S QUOTE
"We had a slow first half today, and it cost us," said Head Coach Kristi Huizenga. "I think Lowell is a better team than what their record shows and credit them for their grit. In terms of how the game unfolded, there were way too many stoppages in the game for it to have any sort of flow, and for a team like us that creates opportunities out of our possession, that was a huge challenge."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- UMass Lowell scored the opening goal 27:55 into the first half when an offensive rush resulted in Emma Mitchell sniping her shot in the top left corner, securing her first career goal.
- The Riverhawks doubled their lead with four minutes remaining in the opening half when Hope Santaniello cashed in on her first goal of the season, making the lead 2-0 in favor of UMass Lowell.
- Throughout the match, Vermont saw shots from 10 different players, but the UMass Lowell goalie stood strong, keeping the Catamounts off the board with just a few minutes remaining.
- A penalty kick was awarded to Vermont in the 89th minute due to a handball violation on the Riverhawks. Kate Bossert was elected to take it, putting her shot just wide of the net, keeping the score at 2-0 in favor of UMass Lowell.
