Game Highlights
COACH'S QUOTE
"We're proud of our efforts tonight to get an important three points on the road," said Head Coach Kristi Huizenga. "We knew the game would be compact at times and we are proud of how we worked through that. The quality of the goals were excellent and we were happy with how we closed out the game"
HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the 11th minute, Vermont nearly scored the opening goal on the first corner kick of the game, taken by Torie Snyder, placing the ball directly in front of the net where Sydney Remington was there to make an attempt on goal amidst numerous bodies, but NJITs' goalie made the diving save as a Highlander defender came through to clear the ball away from danger.
- Jill Brody secured the first goal of the game three minutes later in the 14th minute, wheeling around her defender on the short side of the field and letting it rip from just outside the box, pinning the ball top right on the NJIT goalkeeper, earning the Catamounts the 1-0 advantage. The goal is Brody's first goal of the season and 10th in her career.
- A series of miraculous saves by Kylee Carafoli throughout the remainder of the first half kept the Catamounts ahead, 1-0, as time expired in the opening 45 minutes.
- Vermont doubled its lead in the 57th minute when Snyder attempted another corner kick, placing it on the head of Kate Bossert who connected with Emma Warren, finishing the play with a header of her own, putting the ball to the left corner of the net for her second goal of the season, earning UVM the 2-0 advantage.
- NJIT found the back of the net for the first time in the 64th minute, capitalizing on a two-on-one opportunity when Briana Andreoli dished the ball off to Kelsey Ramos, placing her shot in the right corner to cut the Vermont lead in half, 2-1.
- Despite the late offensive push from the Highlanders, Vermont stayed poised, keeping NJIT off the scoreboard for the remainder of the match, earning the 2-1 road victory, first conference win of the season.
