COACH'S QUOTE
"Playing on the road is always tough, especially at Army. They are a tough team, and they play hard," said Mayer Head Women's Basketball Coach Alisa Kresge. "I thought we matched their intensity and were able to come away with a win tonight."

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The two teams started out slow with Vermont taking a 4-2 advantage following a Bella Vito layup with 6:38 remaining.

  • Army started the second quarter with a quick 5-2 spurt to cut the deficit to 15-11 after a Kya Smith free throw with 8:25 remaining in the half.
  • Smith then helped the Black Knights cut the deficit to two, 23-21, on a putback layup with 2:13 remaining in the half.
  • Bella Vito caused a turnover and finished on the other end with 58 seconds left to send the game into halftime with Vermont leading 25-21.
  • To start the first two and a half minutes of the second half Army continued to battle and twice cut the deficit back to two. Fiona Hastick knocked down a three with 7:35 remaining to cut it 30-28. Hastick scored all seven points for the Black Knights to start the quarter.
  • Vermont responded with an 8-0 run over the next two minutes to push their lead to 38-30.
  • However, Army came right back with a 7-2 stretch of their own to trim the Vermont lead to 40-37 with 3:12 remaining in the third quarter. The Black Knights would never get closer the rest of the game.
  • Nikola Priede scored a putback layup on the next possession for Vermont and then Paula Gonzalez drained a three to put Vermont up 45-37 heading into the final quarter.
