WEST POINT, NY – The Catamounts (6-4) played stifling defense in the second half to secure a 62-42 victory over Army (2-6) on the road on Wednesday Night. With the victory Vermont extends their winning streak to three games.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The two teams started out slow with Vermont taking a 4-2 advantage following a Bella Vito layup with 6:38 remaining.
- The Catamounts closed the rest of the quarter out outscoring Army 11-4 to seize a 15-6 lead heading into the first break. Emma Utterback led all scorers with seven, while Sam McNaughton scored four for the Black Knights.
- Army started the second quarter with a quick 5-2 spurt to cut the deficit to 15-11 after a Kya Smith free throw with 8:25 remaining in the half.
- Smith then helped the Black Knights cut the deficit to two, 23-21, on a putback layup with 2:13 remaining in the half.
- Bella Vito caused a turnover and finished on the other end with 58 seconds left to send the game into halftime with Vermont leading 25-21.
- To start the first two and a half minutes of the second half Army continued to battle and twice cut the deficit back to two. Fiona Hastick knocked down a three with 7:35 remaining to cut it 30-28. Hastick scored all seven points for the Black Knights to start the quarter.
- Vermont responded with an 8-0 run over the next two minutes to push their lead to 38-30.
- However, Army came right back with a 7-2 stretch of their own to trim the Vermont lead to 40-37 with 3:12 remaining in the third quarter. The Black Knights would never get closer the rest of the game.
- Nikola Priede scored a putback layup on the next possession for Vermont and then Paula Gonzalez drained a three to put Vermont up 45-37 heading into the final quarter.
- The Catamounts used stifling defense in the fourth quarter, holding the Black Knights to just 13.3 percent and outscoring them 17-5, to give the game its final score of 62-42.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Utterback finished with game-highs in points (18) and assists (five).
- Priede finished with a career-high 13 points alongside three rebounds and two assists.
- Anna Olson scored nine points and grabbed a tied team-high five rebounds.
- Vermont shot 48.2 percent from the floor and held the Black Knights to just 34.0 percent from the field and 14.3 percent from three.
- The Catamounts did not commit a turnover in the third quarter and only had two in the entire second half.
- Vermont outscored Army 37-21 in the second half.
- With the victory Vermont Mutual will donate $100 to the King Street Center.
