PROVIDENCE, RI – Vermont's second half comeback came up short as they fell 57-47 at Providence on Friday (Nov.) 10 at Alumni Hall. With the loss The Catamounts drop to 1-1 on the season while the Friars improve to 2-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Delaney Richason began the scoring for the Catamounts knocking down a three on their first possession to put Vermont up 3-2 with 9:12 remaining.
- Over the next nine plus minutes with both teams scoring 15 points as Vermont took an 18-17 lead into the break. Emma Utterback led all scorers with eight points while Kylee Sheppard added five for the Friars.
- The Friars used a quick 11-3 spurt in the first two plus minutes of the second quarter to take a 28-21 lead with 7:13 remaining.
- After a Nikola Priede layup and two free throws from Utterback the Catamounts had cut the lead to 28-25 with 4:39 remaining in the first half.
- Providence ended the first half with a 9-0 run, led by six points from Olivia Olsen, to take a 37-25 lead into the break.
- The two teams traded blows throughout the third quarter with the Friars largest lead ballooning to 47-31 with 2:15 remaining after a three from Kylee Sheppard. However, Vermont did not go away and closed the fourth quarter out 6-2 to cut the deficit to 49-37 going into the final stanza.
- The Catamounts continued their run, scoring the first nine points of the fourth quarter, and holding Providence scoreless for the first 6:54. A three pointer from Malia Lenz with 3:06 remaining cut the deficit to just 49-46. On the following possession Anna Olson converted 1-of-2 free throws to end the run and cut the score to 49-47. The closest the Catamounts would get.
- Providence would make their free throws down the stretch, scoring the final eight points of the game, to seal a 57-47 victory over Vermont.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Utterback led all scorers with 15 points. She also grabbed five rebounds and dished out seven assists.
- Utterback is now 11th in Vermont program history in scoring, with 1,303 points in her career.
- The Catamounts held Providence to 35.1 percent shooting from the floor.
- Olson chipped in nine points four rebounds and two blocks.
- Richason had a game-high four blocks to go with five points and five rebounds.

Following Friday night's matchup with the Friars the Catamounts will have a week off before returning on the road to face Quinnipiac on Friday, November 17.
