BURLINGTON, VT – Vermont battled back-and-forth with New Hampshire on Thursday (Oct. 12) night in a game that ended in a 1-1 tie. With the result the Catamounts move to 8-4-1 on the season and 2-2-1 in the America East while the Wildcats move to 5-4-3 on the season and 2-1-2 in conference play.

"I thought our overall play was solid tonight, and we once again were able to create many attacking opportunities," said head coach
Kristi Huizenga. "We didn't quite get a hold of some of our shots the way we have been but happy for Bailey to finish a wonderful strike when it mattered. We need to be better to close out the game with the lead and will continue to work defensively."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The two teams battled back-and-forth throughout the first half with neither side able to gain an advantage.
- In the first half Vermont outshot New Hampshire 6-2, but both teams registered just one shot on goal.
- The Catamounts came out strong in the second half, pressing forward, and after a New Hampshire handball just outside the 18-yard box the Catamounts were set up with a freekick in the 55th minute. Bailey Ayer stepped up to the spot and sunk a rocket of a shot to beat the keeper into the upper right hand corner to put UVM up 1-0.
- Over the next 30 minutes the two teams went back-and-forth with both teams creating a number of chances. Vermont forced Sally Rainey to make three second half saves, and New Hampshire forced Erin Murphy to make two second half saves.
- Finally, in the 84th minute New Hampshire broke through with a goal from Abbi Maier to tie the score up at 1-1, which would be the final result.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Ayer recorded her third goal of the season and second on a free kick. With the goal she has improved her total points to 11 on the season which ranks fifth in America East.
- Murphy finished with four saves for the Catamounts.
- Vermont outshot New Hampshire 19-9 with a 7-5 shots on goal advantage.
- Karen Wallace finished with a game-high seven shots and recorded two shots on goal.

Following Thursday's matchup with the Wildcats, the Catamounts will have a quick turnaround when they travel to Vestal, NY to battle with Binghamton on Sunday, October 15.
