COACH'S QUOTE
"Today was not our best day. We made some uncharacteristic mistakes in the first half that unfortunately led to the two goals and our shots and crosses were off attacking wise," said head coach
Kristi Huizenga. "Credit to Binghamton for capitalizing on their two opportunities. We have had a very busy week and look forward to getting some recovery and good training in this week."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Vermont dominated the first 25 minutes of the game outshooting Binghamton 8-0 and forcing goalkeeper Kaitlyn Williams to make three saves. However, in the 26th minute the Bearcats got a breakaway and Olivia McKnight was able to bury the shot low right to give Binghamton a 1-0 lead.
- Six minutes later the Bearcats doubled their lead when McKnight sent a cross into the box to Samiya Reid who finished a hard shot into the upper right of the net to put Binghamton up 2-0. The Bearcats would carry this lead into halftime.
- The Catamounts came out strong in the second half creating three straight corners in the first six minutes, but the Binghamton defense held strong.
- Aubrey Bough created a great chance in the 68th minute when she spun past her defender and fired a shot low right from about 25 yards out, but Williams (10 saves) again made the stop.
- Kate Bossert had another great look for Vermont to get a goal back in the 75th minute on a chip from Laney Ross but her header low was saved by Williams to help preserve a 2-0 win for Binghamton.
