COACH'S QUOTE
"Tonight's game was a hard fought battle, and we are proud of our performance," said Head Coach
Kristi Huizenga. "The first half was a chess match and the second half turned into a set piece battle where we responded to several adverse moments. The game was played at a very high level, and I'm not surprised to see seven goals between these two teams. Credit to Lowell for coming away with this one and we look forward to coming home Sunday."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Catamounts struck first with a left footed strike from Kate Bossert in the 35th minute. Bossert received the ball off a throw and was able to fire a shot, from the top right-hand corner of the 18-yard box, that was punched by the keeper off the inside of the post and in to put Vermont up 1-0.
- The River Hawks answered back quickly to knot the game up at 1-1. Calliste Brookshire was able to collect a through ball and loft it past Erin Murphy with her left in the 39th minute.
- UMass Lowell brought pressure to start the second half connecting on a pair of goals in the first 10 minutes, including a penalty kick in the 53rd minute, to extend their lead to 3-1.
- The Catamounts were able to answer in the 62nd minute when Durieux sent a free kick into the box where Sydney Remington then headed the ball forward to Fiona Doherty who connected with her outstretched right foot and pushed it into the back right-hand corner of the net to close the score to 3-2.
- However, 20 seconds later the River Hawks were able to answer on a Catamounts own goal to extend their lead to 4-2.
- In the 67th minute the Catamounts were awarded a free kick outside of the 18-yard box. Natalie Durieux took the set piece, as it was punched out by the UMass Lowell keeper it connected onto Sydney Remington's head and into the goal to cut the River Hawks lead to just 4-3, but that would be the final outcome.
