BURLINGTON, Vt. – Vermont struck first with a penalty kick in the opening 15 minutes to take a 1-0 lead, but Binghamton stormed back to defeat Vermont 6-1. With the victory Binghamton improves to 6-4-2 and 3-0-0 in the America East, while Vermont falls to 3-6-2 and 0-2-2 in the America East.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Catamounts started the day fast taking a 1-0 lead with a penalty kick goal from Kate Bossert in the 14th minute.
- Binghamton answered quickly to knot the score up at 1-1 on free kick in the 18th minute. Lexi Vegoda lofted a ball toward the back post inside the box where Peyton Gilmore connected with a header.
- Maya Anand added a first half hat trick to put her in sole possession of the America East goal lead, with nine through 11 contests. Her first goal came when she took a shot from outside the 18-yard box in the 20th minute to give the Bearcats a 2-1 lead.
- Peyton Gilmore added her second goal of the first half after Molly McClelland's shot cracked off the cross bar and bounced down for Gilmore to head it into an empty net and give the Bearcats a 3-1 lead.
- Anand would add the last two goals of the half coming in the 30th minute and 38th minute both from outside the 18. Her third goal caromed off the bottom of the crossbar past the outstretched hands of goalkeeper Erin Murphy and in.
- The Catamounts kept constant pressure in the second half trying to cut into the lead. In the second half Vermont had several scoring chances and outshot the Bearcats 15-3 but were unable to break through goalkeeper Kaitlyn Williams (7 saves). Bailey Ayer launched several shots on net to test Williams but every time she was up to the task.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Kate Bossert scored her fifth goal of the season on a penalty kick that she snuck into the lower right hand corner of the net past the diving goalkeeper. Bossert finished with the team lead of five shots, with three on goal.
- Bailey Ayer finished with four shots and tied Bossert for the team lead with three on frame.
- The Catamounts won the corner kick advantage with six to the Bearcats two.
- Vermont held a 21-16 advantage in shots.
- Erin Murphy had four saves in the first half. Kylee Carafoli came in for the second half to hold the Bearcats scoreless and keep the score where it was, with two saves.
UP NEXT
The Catamounts will play a second consecutive game at Virtue Field when they play Hartford on Wednesday, October 5 in their last non-conference matchup of the season. The start time for the game is slated for 4 p.m. and will be broadcast live on ESPN+. Wednesday's game will be Afterschool Day with the Cats where all kids 12 and younger are encouraged to wear their favorite jersey and receive free admission to the game.
