Vermont Heads on the Road to Face No. 11 Indiana

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL NOTEBOOK
Vermont (0-0) begins the 2022-23 campaign Tuesday (Nov. 8) on the road against # 11 Indiana (0-0). The Catamounts and the Hoosiers will tip off at 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast on BIG+ with a paid subscription. The new voice of the Catamounts, Ryan Zimmerman, will broadcast the action live on WVMT (FM 96.3 / AM 620) and the Varsity Network App, which you can download here.

HOMECOMING
The Catamounts will be bringing two key members of their rotation back home, to the Hoosier state. Co-captains Emma Utterback and Delaney Richason will be playing their first game in their home state for the Green and Gold. Utterback, a Greenwood, Indiana native, earned Preseason All-Conference Team recognition after earning All-Conference First Team honors last season while leading the UVM with averages of 13.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.9 assists per contest on 41 percent shooting from the field. Richason, a Zionsville, Indiana native, is coming off a career year that saw her average 9.8 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.4 assists while registering a career-high 33 blocks in a single season. After totaling 29 in her first two seasons in Catamount Country.
 
ROAD OPENERS
Under Mayer Women's Basketball Coach Alisa Kresge, the Catamounts have gone 1-3 in road openers. Vermont last earned a victory in a road opener in the 2018-19 season defeating NJIT 71-63 on December 2. In 2019-20 the Catamounts fell on the road to Dartmouth 72-55; Carly Whiteside had 10 points and four rebounds and Emma Utterback chipped in eight points and seven rebounds. Utterback is averaging eight points and four rebounds in three road openers with eight total assists. Delaney Richason is averaging six points and four rebounds per game in road openers, while Junior Anna Olson is averaging 16.5 points, six rebounds and two blocks in the two road openers of her career.
 
AMERICA EAST PRESEASON POLL & SELECTIONS
Vermont received one first place vote and 46 overall points earning them the number three spot in the America East Preseason Poll. Reigning America East champion UAlbany earned the number one spot, receiving seven of the nine first place votes, and 59 points overall. Maine was voted second overall with 54 total points. NJIT was selected fourth in the poll with a total of 42 points, while Binghamton, the only other team to receive a first place vote, had 39 overall points to round out the top five spots. UMass Lowell received 27 points for sixth, while UNH and Bryant each garnered 21 points for a tie for seventh. UMBC rounded out the preseason poll receiving 15 points. Anna Olson and Emma Utterback were named to the Preseason All-Conference Team for the Catamounts.
 
INSIDE THE SERIES
This will be the first ever matchup between Indiana and Vermont. All time Vermont is 1-17 against the Big 10 with their lone victory coming in the 2010 NCAA Tournament against Wisconsin 64-55. The last time Vermont played a Big 10 team was November 10, 2019, when they traveled to Minnesota where they fell 90-58. Emma Utterback recorded 14 points on 6-12 shooting with six rebounds in that game while Carly Whiteside chipped in six points, four rebounds and an assist.
 
SCOUTING INDIANA
The Hoosiers are led by Graduate Student Grace Berger who averaged a team-high 16.2 points per game last season to go along with 6.2 rebounds and 4.6 assists per contest. Senior Mackenzie Holmes returns for another season after averaging 15.2 points to go along with a team high seven rebounds per game. Holmes also led the team with 42 blocks on the season as well as a team highs with 60 percent from the field and 81 percent from the line. Junior guard Chloe Moore-McNeil played in 31 games a season ago as a key reserve averaging 5.2 points and 2.9 rebounds a game while shooting 31 percent from behind the arc.
 
UP NEXT
Following Tuesday's contest with the Hoosiers Vermont will continue on the road against Mid-American Conference foe Miami (OH) on Friday, November 11. The game is scheduled to start at 10:15 a.m. ET. The matchup between the Catamounts and the Redhawks will be broadcast live on ESPN+. HOME OPENER SET FOR NOVEMBER 15
