SCOUTING THE TROJANS
USC opened its season with a 74-61 loss to Florida Gulf Coast, but responded with a 96-58 victory over Alabama State on Thursday (Nov. 10). The Trojans were tabbed as the No. 4 team in the Pac-12 Preseason Poll. All-Conference First Teamer Drew Peterson returns to Southern California as a fifth year guard. He averaged 12.4 points and 6.2 rebounds a season ago. Peterson has averaged 14 points, seven rebounds, and six assists through the first two games this season. Boogie Ellis has a team-high 17 points per game and 3.5 assists per game. The Trojans added five-star recruit and McDonald's All-American Kijani Wright to the program. Â
Â
INSIDE THE SERIES
Vermont and USC meet for the second time in series history and the first time since the 2014-15 campaign. The Catamounts outscored the Trojans 30-21 in the second half, but suffered a 64-56 loss at the Galen Center. Kurt Steidl had a team-high 18 points, and Ethan O'Day registered 14 points in the road contest.
Â
CATS IN THE GOLDEN STATE
The Cats are looking for their fourth ever win in the state of California. Vermont has registered victories over Air Force, Illinois State, and Sonoma State in the Golden State. The Catamounts had a close call against UCLA in 2003, falling to the Bruins 68-67.
Â
27 POINTS FROM PENN
Dylan Penn more than doubled his season-high with a 27-point outing Sunday night at Cal State Fullerton. The guard went 9-for-17 from the field, 2-for-5 from deep, and sank 7-of-9 free throws. He converted on a crucial layup in the final second of regulation to tie the game and force overtime.
Â
THE LONGTIME CATS
Only three Catamounts have been with the program for more than two seasons:Â
Robin Duncan,Â
Aaron Deloney, andÂ
Nick Fiorillo. The UVM trio has combined for only 57 career starts, with Duncan owning 49 of those starts.
LOGGING MILES
Vermont enters the third of an eight-game stretch away from Patrick Gym. The Catamounts will log over 8,400 miles in the month of November.
