Men’s Basketball Defeats UMass Lowell at Home Thursday Evening

FINAL SCORE: Vermont 66, UMass Lowell 64
BURLINGTON, Vt. – Gus Yalden recorded a team-high 21 points on Thursday night as Vermont (19-11, 11-4 AE) defeated UMass Lowell (13-16, 8-6 AE) 66-64 from Patrick Gym.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • UMass Lowell started strong, leading 8-3 at the 16-minute media timeout.
  • At 11:04, Lucas Mari scored a driving layup while drawing a foul. Vermont led 15-12.
  • Momo Nkugwa scored on a dunk from Lucas Mari's bounce pass just before the 8-minute media timeout, tying the game at 20.
  • With three minutes left in the first half, TJ Hurley made a right-side three-pointer to tie the game at 28.
  • Sean Blake's layup closed a competitive first half, giving the Catamounts a 34-30 halftime lead. Yalden led with 8 points at the break.
  • The Catamounts opened the second half with a three-pointer from Ben Johnson and a layup by Sean Blake, leading 43-41.
  • UMass Lowell pushed back, leading 44-43 at the 12-minute media timeout.
  • Gus Yalden added a layup, but the River Hawks maintained a 54-49 lead at the 8-minute media timeout.
  • TJ Hurley's layup tied the game at 56 just before the final media timeout.
  • Noah Barnett's tip-in jumper secured a 66-64 victory for the Catamounts.

  • With today's Win, Vermont Mutual Insurance Group will donate $100 to The Ronald McDonald House through the Cat's Win, Community Win's initiative. Vermont Mutual has donated over $6 Million Dollars since launching their Charitable Giving Fund in 2014.

The Catamounts will host UAlbany for their final regular season game on Tuesday (Mar. 3) from Patrick Gym. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m. and will be broadcast live on ESPN+. Tuesday's game is Senior Night presented by Vermont Federal Credit Union. The Senior ceremony is presented by the Alumni Association. Fans can receive a free green & gold pom-pom, courtesy of the Alumni Association. Students can receive a free co-branded tee shirt, courtesy of CED. Students can receive a free "The Den" tee shirt as well as a $10 concessions food voucher, students can also enter to win a spring break themed gift bundle from the UVM Bookstore.
