FOUR STARTERS IN DOUBLE FIGURES
Vermont's four starters who have started every game this season –
Emma Utterback (11.1 PPG),
Josie Larkins (12.0 PPG),
Delaney Richason (10.7 PPG) and
Anna Olson (12.1 PPG) are leading the Catamounts all scoring in double figures. All four of them played 33 or more minutes in UVM's America East opener against Maine.
LARKINS LEADING AND APPROACHING MILESTONES
Graduate guard
Josie Larkins, who is second on the Catamounts in scoring with 12.0 points per game, is approaching some big career milestones. She needs just one more three-pointer to tie Lori Taylor (1994-98) for second all-time in program history with 194 made three-pointers.
She also needs just 33 points to reach 1,000 in her Catamount career. She would be the 23rd player in program history to reach 1,000 points and the first to do so since
Hanna Crymble '20 in 2018.
Larkins is tied for 41st in the NCAA currently shooting 43.4% from behind the arc. She's made 33 three-pointers this year which is tied for 26th in the NCAA.
FINISHING NON-CONFERENCE WITH AUTHORITY
Vermont closed out its non-conference schedule with a 4-1 mark over its last five games to finish with a winning record (6-5) for the first time since the 2009-10 campaign. UVM had six non-conference wins this season matching the most by the program since the same 2009-10 season. Vermont has won six games three times in non-conference since then. Two of those three campaigns have come under Mayer Women's Basketball Coach
Alisa Kresge – this season and the 2019-20 campaign.
ALL STARTS ON THE DEFENSIVE END
UVM is second in America East on the defensive end this season giving up 58.1 points per game. In the Catamounts six wins this year they've given up just 51.2 points per game. Vermont is also second in America East averaging 3.7 blocked shots per game. UVM forward
Anna Olson leads the league averaging 1.4 blocks per game.
LIMITING OPPONENTS TRIPS TO THE LINE
The Catamounts are averaging just 13.0 fouls-per game this season which is the 12th fewest in the NCAA. As a team in 12 games they have committed just 156 personal fouls. UVM committed a season-low eight fouls at Navy on November 20.
SCOUTING UNH
After postponed conference games with UMBC and UMass Lowell last week Wednesday will be the Wildcats conference opener. With a hole in their schedule last Saturday UNH faced Boston College in a non-conference matchup rescheduled from December 11. UNH fell 88-52 to the ACC foe. In UNH's three wins this season, all of which came at home, they have held their opponent to 46 or fewer points.
UNH is 4-6 in its last 10 conference openers. The Wildcats lead America East with 9.9 steals per game. Their turnover margin of plus-3.6 is also tops in the league. Graduate student Amanda Torres leads UNH in scoring with 11.8 points per game, which is tied for 11th in America East. During the 2019-20 season, she averaged 13 points per game in the Wildcats two contests against Vermont.
SERIES HISTORY
Wednesday will be the 86th meeting between the Catamounts and Wildcats. Vermont leads the all-time series 45-40. Vermont has won sevent of the last ten games. In their last meeting at UNH on February 20, 2020 the Catamounts stunned the Wildcats with a late rally. UVM trailed 42-36 with 1:23 to play but used an 8-0 run to steal the win.
Josie Larkins and
Hanna Crymble hit three-pointers to tie the game before Crymble put home the game-winner with two seconds left in regulation. UVM has won in its last four trips to Lundholm Gymnasium.
