WOMEN'S BASKETBALL NOTEBOOK
Vermont (11-7, 5-2) hosts first place Stony Brook (15-2, 6-1) in a key America East matchup Wednesday evening. The regular season finale between the two teams will air live on ESPN+ from Patrick Gym with Rob Ryan and Bernie Cieplicki on the call. LARKINS TO BE HONORED WEDNESDAY NIGHT
Graduate guard
Josie Larkins will be honored in a pregame ceremony Wednesday evening at 5:55 p.m. On January 15 the Lincroft, New Jersey native had a team-high 21 points in Vermont's 63-34 win over UMBC. With two free throws in the first quarter she became the 23
rd Catamount in program history to reach 1,000 career points.
UTTERBACK NAMED AMERICA EAST PLAYER OF THE WEEK FOR SECOND TIME
On Monday, junior guard
Emma Utterback was named America East Player of the Week for the second time this season. She averaged 13.3 points per game last week as led UVM to three straight wins, extending the Catamounts conference win streak to four games, a first since 2010. Utterback was UVM's leading scorer against Hartford on Friday and Sunday afternoon. She is tied for the team-lead in scoring with 12.3 points per game and has reached double figures in 10 of Vermont's last 11 games.
FOUR STARTERS IN DOUBLE FIGURES
Vermont's four starters who have started every game this season –
Emma Utterback (12.3 PPG),
Josie Larkins (12.3 PPG),
Delaney Richason (10.1 PPG) and
Anna Olson (10.6 PPG) are leading the Catamounts all scoring in double figures. All four of them play an average of 28.8 minutes or more per game.
LARKINS HAVING A CAREER-YEAR FROM DOWNTOWN
Larkins is tied for the team lead in scoring this season with 12.3 points per game. She is tied for 15th in the NCAA with 51 made three-pointers this season. She is shooting a career best 42.9 percent from downtown. She has made 211 career three-pointers which ranks second all-time at UVM.
ALL STARTS ON THE DEFENSIVE END
UVM is second in America East on the defensive end this season giving up 54.9 points per game. In the Catamounts 11 wins this year they've given up just 48.5 points per game. Vermont is also third in America East averaging 3.6 blocked shots per game. UVM forward
Anna Olson is second in the league averaging 1.4 blocks per game.
WIN STREAKS AT THE TOP OF THE STANDINGS
The three teams at the top of the America East standings right now: Stony Brook, Vermont and UMass Lowell have all won three or more games in a row. Stony Brook has won its last six games after dropping its conference opener to NJIT, UMass Lowell has won three straight since dropping its conference opener to UAlbany and the Catamounts have won four straight games. UVM's last loss was to Stony Brook on January 12, a 65-59 Seawolves win.
SCOUTING STONY BROOK
The Seawolves are one of 12 teams in the country with 15 or more wins this season. Their current six-game winning streak (all in league play) is its second longest win streak of the 2021-22 campaign. Stony Brook is 12-0 this season when they lead at the half or outrebound their opponent. In the January 12 meeting between these two teams Stony Brook led by one at the half and outrebounded the Catamounts 44-36.
Senior guard Anastasia Warren is the Seawolves leading scorer this season. She is fourth in America East averaging 12.7 points per game. As a team, Stony Brook leads the league in offense averaging 68.5 points per game.
SERIES HISTORY
After 20 years of the Catamounts battling the Seawolves, Stony Brook holds a 22-19 edge. It has been a streaky series, Vermont won eight consecutive meetings from 2008 to 2011. Stony Brook has now won each of the last eight. Vermont's last win over the Seawolves was in February of 2017 on Long Island.

UVM will celebrate National Girls and Women in Sports Day presented by Vermont Mutual on Saturday, February 5th during their game against UMass Lowell at 2 p.m. Girls from the local community with an interest in sports and being involved in this celebration will have the opportunity to become members of the UVM Athletic Staff for the day. Girls in grades 4-8 can apply to a wide variety of positions including: Public Address Announcer, Marketing Assistant, Ticket Staff, and many more!
