COACH'S QUOTE
"We enjoyed the opportunity to play at historic Applejack Stadium today on a beautiful surface and great soccer environment," Head Coach
Kristi Huizenga said. "The staff did an incredible job hosting us and Bryant and we are appreciative to our southern Vermont friends for their work in putting this together. Outcome wise, we had several chances to double our lead in the second half and came up short today. We are looking forward to getting back to work this week and hitting conference play Sunday."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Bulldogs forced Vermont's Lydia Kessel into action early Sunday afternoon. She made two saves in the game's opening seven minutes including a partial breakaway stop on Bryant's Catherine Bean. In the 16th minute Bryant's Jordyn Collins hit the post.
- UVM opened the scoring on its first shot of the contest in the 20th minute. Frances O'Donnell pounced on a floated pass by the Bryant goalkeeper and quickly found Basa alone in the box. Basa took one touch to settle the ball to her right and fired to her left sliding her second goal of the season just inside the far post.
- The Bulldogs equalized with just 18:48 left in regulation. From about 25 yards out to the left of UVM net Bean floated a through ball into the box. With the wind, the looping ball evaded Kessel and found the bottom right corner. For the first year Bean, it was her second goal of the season.
- Bryant won the contest with a fortuitous bounce in the 87th minute. Eleni Spiratos fired a shot from distance that hit a Vermont defender in the box and was redirected in the opposite direction Kessel was heading. Spiratos second career goal was the game-winner.
- Vermont had one more opportunity late in the final minute but Basa fired a shot just wide to the right.
