COACH'S QUOTE
"I'm really happy for our team, we knew getting our first road win wasn't going to be easy," Mayer Women's Basketball Coach
Alisa Kresge said. "We got off to a good start, responded through adversity and were able to finish strong. We battled through some tough non-conference teams. Hopefully this gives us a foundation going into America East play as we know it's a competitive league."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Catamounts used a 9-0 run over 1:36 of game action in the first quarter fueled by four points from Emma Utterback to take an early lead Tuesday morning. Delaney Richason and Catherine Gilwee hit from downtown and UVM led 17-12 after the opening 10 minutes.
- Vermont hit three triples in the opening minutes of the second quarter including two back-to-back from Richason to take a 10-point lead with 7:10 to go in the half. Bryant used a 6-0 run to cut into the Catamounts lead and UVM carried a 29-25 lead into the break.
- During a defensive third quarter Gilwee scored five points for the Catamounts in just 36 seconds. Utterback hit two free throws late in the third to UVM a six-point edge heading to the fourth quarter.
- Vermont used a 9-1 run over 3:14 of game action to pull away from the Bulldogs early in the fourth quarter. Richason had eight points in the final 10 minutes to close out the win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Vermont completed its non-conference schedule with a winning record (6-5) for the first time since the 2009-10 campaign.
- UVM has six non-conference wins this season matching the most by the program since the same 2009-10 season. Vermont has won six games three times in non-conference since then. Two of those three campaigns have come under Mayer Women's Basketball Coach Alisa Kresge – this season and the 2019-20 campaign.
- First year guard Catherine Gilwee, making her fourth career start, set a new career-high for the second straight game with 13 points.
- Bryant was 0-for-15 from the three-point line Tuesday. It was the first time UVM has held its opponent without a three-pointer since February 15, 2017 against UMass Lowell.
