Â
FAMILIAR FACE
In the 31 prior meetings between Vermont and Yale, the Catamounts have hosted 14 times and own a 9-5 home record. Yale has the 17-14 edge over UVM in the all-time series. The traditional non-conference foes had met for 13 straight seasons before COVID-19 affected both teams' schedules last year.
Â
GOING WAY BACK
The Vermont-Yale series dates all the way back to January 11, 1924 when the Catamounts took a 36-25 victory in New Haven, Connecticut. UVM posted a 15-2 record that season and went on to win the New England Championship.
Â
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
Yale enters Friday having won two of its last three games, including an 82-54 victory at Siena on Tuesday night. The Bulldogs lone loss on the season came at Seton Hall (L, 80-44) on November 14. Azar Swain leads the Yale offense with 16.5 points per game. The senior was a First Team All-Ivy selection in 2019-20 – the last season Yale competed. Matthue Cotton (13.3 ppg) and Jalen Gabbidon (12.3) also average double figures for the Bulldogs. The preseason Ivy League favorites have won four of the last six regular season titles.
Â
MID-MAJOR MATCHUP
The Catamounts and Bulldogs are both ranked in the latest edition of the Mid-Major Top 25, which was conducted by CollegeInsider.com. Yale currently has the edge on Vermont with the No. 20 ranking. UVM is ranked 22nd in the mid-major poll.
Â
CATS IN NEW ENGLAND
Vermont has compiled 425 wins since the start of the 2002-03 season – the second most among Division I schools in New England. Only UConn has more wins (431) than UVM during that span. Yale has 298 wins, which is the 10th highest total.
