ALBANY, NY – All five Vermont starters reached double figures on Monday afternoon as the Catamounts won their third straight league game defeating UMBC 65-54 from UAlbany's SEFCU Arena. With the win Vermont improved to 4-2 in America East play while the Retrievers fell to 2-6 on the year and 2-4 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- After a slow start on Sunday UMBC was out of the gate fast today. With six points from Janee'a Summers they jumped out to an early 8-3 advantage. The Retrievers held a 16-12 lead after the opening 10 minutes.
- In the second quarter Anna Olson helped reestablish the Catamounts edge. After a three-pointer from Emma Utterback Olson scored five points in 49 seconds to tie the game at 20 with 5:47 left in the half.
- Vermont closed the first half on an 8-0 run with four points from Olson to take a 28-22 lead in to the break. Senior guard Josie Larkins had five assists in second quarter. Vermont held UMBC scoreless over the final 4:48 of the quarter.
- The Catamounts used an 10-0 run midway through the third quarter to break the game open. Delaney Richason had four points over that stretch as UVM built its advantage to 15. Vermont took a 13-point edge into the final frame.
- UMBC used a 10-2 fourth quarter run including eight points from Summers to cut the Vermont lead to seven with 2:26 left in regulation. Larkins and Richason were each four-for-four from the free throw line down the stretch to seal the win for UVM.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Vermont has won three straight league games for the third time under Coach Kresge. (1/11-1/18, 2020 & 1/16-1/23, 2019). Vermont has won three league games in a row just three times in the last 11 years all under Coach Kresge.
- The Catamounts currently sit in a tie for third place with UMass Lowell at 4-2. They are the only two league teams with four wins this season. Maine and Stony Brook are tied for first at 3-1.
- Vermont once again matched its highest output in a quarter this season with 23 points in the third quarter. The Catamounts shot a blistering 68.8% (11-16) from the field during the third.
- After their series sweep Vermont has regained the edge in the all-time series with 20 wins and 19 losses against the Retrievers. UVM is now 3-1 all-time against UMBC in a neutral site contest with all three wins coming at UAlbany's SEFCU Arena.
- When the Cats Win, Community Wins. With each Catamount win, Vermont Mutual Insurance donates $100 to a local non-profit. Vermont is scheduled to host Binghamton this weekend for a two-game series at Patrick Gym. The teams will face each other at 5 p.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday.
