COACH'S QUOTE
"We played hard but have to find ways to come up with the big plays like a defensive rebound or executing offensively in big moments," said Mayer Women's Basketball Head Coach
Alisa Kresge. "Unfortunately tonight when the big plays were needed, we didn't come up with making the play. If we can learn from these moments we'll give ourselves a great chance moving forward."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Catamounts jumped out to an early 7-2 lead fueled by a Delaney Richason three-pointer just 11 seconds into the game. The Black Bears responded with a 13-0 run to take early control of the contest. With 15 seconds left in the opening period Josie Larkins converted on an open layup to make it 15-9 Black Bears after ten minutes.
- Vermont opened the second frame on a 13-2 run over the first 3:21. The Catamounts run was keyed with three-point shooting from Hanna Crymble, Jane McCauley and Larkins. Maine responded utilizing an 8-0 to take a 27-26 lead into the half.
- Anne Simon started the third quarter on fire, she scored seven points for the Black Bears in the first 1:23 of game action. Maine built its lead up to 38-30 and then Vermont responded with another run of downtown shooting this time from Sarah Wells, Emma Utterback and Richason. Richason's triple with 2:45 left in the third game UVM a 42-40 lead. Simon quickly answered with her own three-pointer and the Black Bears took a five-point edge to the final frame.
- Larkins scored the first six points of the fourth to give Vermont the lead back 50-49 in the seventh lead change of the night. Maine responded with an 12-2 run that was too much for Vermont to overcome.
