COACH'S QUOTE
"We played a team with a championship pedigree that imposed their will on the game," said Head Coach
Alisa Kresge. "Unfortunately, today was uncharacteristic of what we have been doing for the last few weeks. The most important thing is to learn from tonight's result, regroup and get back to work."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Black Bears established an early five-point advantage with hot-shooting from downtown from Dor Saar and Kelly Fogarty. Saar hit her second triple of the quarter to give Maine an 13-8 edge with 4:46 remaining. Maine's Maeve Carroll scored 10 points in the quarter including six in the final four minutes as Maine took a 22-13 edge to the second frame. Hanna Crymble led the Catamounts with seven points in the opening frame.
- With 7:22 remaining Emma Utterback cut the Black Bears lead to eight with a drive to the hoop. Fogarty responded with another shot from downtown keying a 7-0 Maine run. Carroll finished in the paint with two seconds left in the half to give Maine a 17-point edge at the half. Carroll recorded a double-double in the opening half with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
- Maine's Anna Kahelin and Carroll had four points apiece as the Black Bears started the third quarter on an 8-0 run growing their advantage to 25 points. Utterback and Crymble each had four points for UVM in the third quarter and Maine took a 51-29 lead into the final frame.
- The Catamounts scored a game-high 18 points in the fourth quarter including three-pointers from Jane McCauley, Delaney Richason and Josie Larkins but it was too little too late for the Catamounts.
