COACH'S QUOTE
"Great to get our first conference win under our belt," said Head CoachÂ
Alisa Kresge. "I am proud of our fight and staying composed down the stretch. Our crowd was awesome. We had a wonderful turnout for a great cause and being our sixth man!"
HOW IT HAPPENED
- UMBC opened up an early 10-5 edge behind six points from Janee'a Summers. The Catmounts responded with a 9-0 run behind six points from Hanna Crymble and a Sarah Wells three-pointer. Abby Settelmeyer hit a jumper in the dying seconds of the quarter to give UVM an 18-12 edge after ten minutes.
- In the second quarter Emma Utterback took over for Vermont. She scored the first eight points of the frame for the Catamounts. UVM closed the half on an 8-0 run to take a 28-18 lead into the break.
- The Retrievers defense stepped up in the second half. After Josie Larkins hit two three-pointers in the early going they closed the third quarter on a 15-0 run to take a 43-41 lead into the final frame.
- The fourth quarter was a back-and-forth affair. The two teams were tied six different times as the game went down the stretch. Delaney Richason gave the Catamounts a four-point edge with 2:16 remaining. The Retrievers were able to cut that in half in the final seconds of regulation.
- Down two after a missed UVM free throw UMBC advanced the ball with 11.2 seconds remaining looking to tie or take the lead. Utterback was all over Te'yJah Oliver and forced her into a pass that went directly to Richason who dribbled out the game, securing the Catamounts first America East win of the season.Â
