BURLINGTON, Vt. – In the America East home opener, the Vermont Catamounts and Maine Black Bears played to a 1-1 draw on Sunday afternoon at Virtue Field. UVM improves its overall record to 2-5-2 and sits at 0-1-1 in the conference standings.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Julia Mahoney nearly gave the Black Bears a lead in the 37th minute. The sophomore bent a shot towards the near post but the ball clanked off the left upright and UVM's back line cleared away any chance for a rebound. Â
- With 10 ticks left on the clock before halftime, the Black Bears netted the first goal of the afternoon. On the right side of the box, Kayla Brace tapped a pass to Mahoney who tapped the ball into the bottom left corner of the net.Ella Bankert answered for the Catamounts in the 51st minute. After a failed clear by the Maine defense, Bankert gathered the loose ball and lofted the equalizer under the crossbar from 20 yards out.
- In double overtime, Maine's Nicole Bailey fought off a defender on the left side of the box but her potential game-winning attempt sailed over the crossbar.
GAME NOTES
- Kacey Lambertson denied a season-high eight shots.
- UVM is unbeaten in its last two conference home openers and five out of the last six.
- The match was Vermont's annual Rally Against Cancer Game presented by Inspired Closets.
