GREENVILLE, N.C. – In the first ever meeting between the two programs, UVM women's lacrosse seniors
Jenna Janes and
Alex Vignona combined for 16 points and powered Vermont to an 18-9 win at East Carolina on Sunday afternoon. The Catamounts improve to 4-1 overall while the Pirates slip to a 5-3 record.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Pirates netted two goals in the opening four minutes of the contest but Janes got the Cats on the board by the 24:47 mark.
- ECU struck again a minute later but UVM rebounded with six unanswered goals including a pair of goals and assists from Janes.
- The Pirates snapped the run with three minutes left in the half, but Janes and Vignona teamed up for two more scores in the late minutes.
- ECU's Megan Pallozzzi (3 goals, 3 draw controls) added two goals in the last 31 seconds of the period as Vermont took a 9-6 lead into the break.
- The Catamounts were on fire to begin the second half with eight straight goals from five different players. With nine minutes left to play, UVM had padded its advantage to 17-6.
- The Pirates added three more goals later in the half then Vignona tacked on her second score of the afternoon in the last minute for the final margin of victory. Â Â
GAME NOTES
- Janes matched her career-high with seven points on five goals and two assists. Janes scored her five goals on seven shots and picked up one ground ball. Â
- Vignona followed with a career-high nine points on one goal and a record-setting seven assists. The senior's seven assists set the program's single-game record. Vignona buried goals on both shot attempts and caused a turnover.
- Elise Koehl added a hat trick and was credited with an assist.
- The Cats won the turnover battle 14-6 and converted a perfect 14-of-14 clear attempts.
- Vermont is off to a 4-1 start or better through five games for the first time since 2014.
- UVM improves to 4-0 against current members of the American Athletic Conference.
- With the victory, the Cats Win, Community Wins campaign and Vermont Mutual Insurance Group will donate $100 to Make-A-Wish Vermont; bringing this year's total to 41 wins and $4,100. Â
