BANGOR, Maine – The first place Maine Black Bears hit eight three-pointers in the second half in a 66-45 win over Vermont Wednesday night in America East action from Cross Insurance Center. With the win Maine improved to 9-1 in conference play while the Catamounts fell to 5-5.

"Our defense was really good in the first half, we made Maine take tough contested shots and it's why we were in the game," said head coach
Alisa Kresge. "We didn't come out in the second half with that same intensity and we turned over the ball way too much. Maine made us pay for every mistake."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Josie Larkins hit an early three-pointer while Hanna Crymble and Candice Wright added layups as Vermont took an early 7-3 lead in Bangor. The Black Bears responded with an 14-3 run to take control in the middle of the first frame. Vermont closed the quarter on a 5-0 run with another Larkins three-pointer to cut the Black Bears lead to one after ten minutes, 16-15.
- The teams combined to miss the first 12 field goal attempts of the second quarter. With 4:19 left in the half Parise Rossignol the reigning America East Player of the Week hit her first three-point field goal of the game. The Black Bears Tanesha Sutton had four points in the closing minutes of the half as Maine took a 23-19 edge to the locker room.
- At the start of the half four different Black Bears scored as Maine went on a 9-0 run to establish as 34-22 lead with 6:41 left in the third quarter. Maine added two three-pointers in 19 seconds to establish a 40-24 lead.
- Vermont quickly responded with its own 8-0 run including two made three-pointers from Josie Larkins and Sarah Wells to cut the Maine deficit back to eight at 40-32. The Black Bears responded right back with two shots from deep. Maine was five-for-six from downtown in the third quarter and took a 48-32 lead into the final frame.
- The Black Bears scored the first ten points of the fourth quarter to lock up their fifth straight America East win.

- Vermont outscored the Black Bears 20-16 in the paint, they also had 13 second chance points.
- Josie Larkins hit five three-pointers in a single game for the second time this season, as she scored a team-high 19 points.
