WOMEN'S BASKETBALL NOTEBOOK
Vermont (9-12, 5-4) continues the second half of America East play as they travel to face Maine (15-7, 8-1) at 7 p.m. Wednesday. The matchup can be heard on AM 620 WVMT with Maura Sheridan on the call. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+. HANDY DOWNTOWN
Senior forward
Lauren Handy hit a season-high three field goals from behind the arc Saturday against the River Hawks. In the Catamounts five conference wins this season Handy has averaged 8.6 points per game. In Vermont's home game against Maine on January 9 she had nine points.
LARKINS FINDING HER TEAMMATES
Sophomore guard
Josie Larkins had five assists Saturday against UMass Lowell, a career-high against a Division I opponent. Six times in the last seven games she has had at least four assists. Saturday against the River Hawks she played all 40 minutes.
CRYMBLE LEADING THE WAY
Junior forward
Hanna Crymble leads the Catamounts in scoring with 15.2 PPG. She is third in America East in scoring. She has been Vermont's leading scorer in 14 of the Catamounts 21 games. She is shooting 51.7% from the field this season which is the second-best mark in America East. She is also shooting 87.2% from the free throw line, which is the best mark in the league.
WRIGHT BLOCK PARTY
Candice Wright is Vermont's all-time block leader with 204 career blocks. She has 63 blocks this season which is third most in the NCAA. She is averaging 3.0 blocks per game, twice this season she has had eight blocks in a single game. By herself this season Candice has more blocks than five America East teams.
FIGHTING FOR HOME COURT IN THE QUARTERFINALS
The Catamounts enter Wednesday's game action tied for fourth place in America East at 5-4 with Stony Brook. Binghamton is a game behind both teams at 4-5. The top-four teams at the end of the regular season will host the America East Quarterfinals on Wednesday, March 6.
SCOUTING MAINE
The Black Bears are in a first-place tie with the Hartford Hawks at 8-1 in America East play. Maine's only loss in league play was a 49-46 decision at Hartford on January 16.
In league play the Black Bears have the top-two scorers Parise Rossignol (16.0 PPG) and Blanca Millan (15.4 PPG). In Saturday's 69-45 win at New Hampshire Rossignol and Millan combined to score 27 points. Rossignol scored seven of Maine's last nine points in the Black Bears win at Vermont in January.
Rossignol was named the America East Player of the Week, for the second time this season on Monday. She averaged 22.5 points per game last week, and scored career-high 32 points on 8-11 3-pt shooting in win over UMass Lowell.
In their previous meeting with Vermont redshirt senior Tanesha Sutton matched a career-high with 27 points. Sutton finished the contest 11-of-16 from the floor, and 5-of-5 from the free throw stripe, for her fourth career 20-plus scoring performance.
The Black Bears are ranked 23rd in the College Insider Mid-Major Top-25. Maine played a very difficult non-conference slate which included a 12-point win at North Carolina and a 3-point loss at #20 Duke.
SERIES HISTORY
Maine is Vermont's oldest rival, the teams have played 86 times, every season at least once since 1975-76. The Black Bears hold an 53-33 edge in the series. Maine is currently on a four-game winning streak against the Catamounts.
