HOMECOMING FOR HANNA
Senior forward
Hanna Crymble will be playing her first collegiate game in her home state of Minnesota. She grew up about 25 miles away from the arena in Champlin, Minnesota. Hanna was a three-sport athlete, playing basketball, lacrosse and volleyball, at Champlin Park High School. She was an all-conference honoree in basketball twice.
UTTERBACK RIGHT AT HOME IN THE MIDWEST
Indiana native
Emma Utterback put on a show Friday afternoon in Chicago. She had 19 points at Loyola Chicago. It was the most by a UVM freshman since senior forward
Hanna Crymble had 20 points on 2/2/17 against Hartford.
SHOOT OUT THE LIGHTS
Vermont shot 56.6% from the field Friday, their best team performance in over 10 seasons. It was the Catamounts second game at or above 50% under Coach Kresge.
READY FOR THE ASSIST
The Catamounts had 21 assists Friday their most in a game since 2014 against Cornell.
Josie Larkins matched a career-high with seven in the contest and
Hanna Crymble set a new career-high with six helpers.
SCOUTING MINNESOTA
The Golden Gophers are ranked in the AP Preseason poll for just the fifth time in program history. Last season former WNBA star and Minnesota alum Lindsey Whalen led the program to a 21-11 record. The Gophers advanced to the second round of the women's NIT and were 9-9 in Big Ten play. Minnesota was picked to finish fifth this season in the Big Ten.
The Gophers players to watch are junior Destiny Pitts, who was named a consensus Preseason All-Big Ten pick by the league's coaches and media, and senior Taiye Bello, who was named Honorable Mention All-Big Ten last season. Bello was also named to the 2020 Katrina McClain Award watch list like Vermont forward
Hanna Crymble. Named after the two-time All-American and 1987 National Player of the Year, the annual award in its third year recognizes the top power forwards in women's NCAA Division I college basketball.
Minnesota dropped its home opener to Missouri State 77-69 Tuesday night. The Lady Bears were a Sweet Sixteen team a year ago and built a 13-point edge in the first quarter that they never relinquished. Destiny Pitts led the way for Minnesota Tuesday with 18 points on six made three-pointers.
SERIES HISTORY
This will be the Catamounts second meeting with the Golden Gophers. UVM fell 74-59 at Minnesota on November 30, 2006. May Kotsopoulos, who recently attended a practice at Patrick Gym, led all scorers in that game with 21 points.
Sunday will mark the Catamounts first game against a Big Ten opponent since traveling to face Michigan on December 17, 2016. UVM fell 78-56 on that occasion,
Hanna Crymble had a team-high 17 points in the contest.
