COACH'S QUOTE
"We're proud of our effort tonight against a very good Hartford team," head coach
Kristi Huizenga said. "We battled all game to earn back the early goal we conceded and had a couple of chances to win it. All in all, it's a good point for us in conference play as we head to Stony Brook on Sunday."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Hawks broke into the scoring column in the 10th minute. Skylar Vitiello sent a long cross from the sideline to the far end of the box. Kaila Lozada finished the scoring chance with a header inside of the near post for the go-ahead score.
- Brooke Jenkins tried to find the equalizer near the midway point of the first half. Jenkins intercepted a pass from 30 yards out and marched towards the edge of the box. The senior lofted a shot towards the near post but she misfired to the right.
- In the 78th minute, Lozada was close to adding an insurance goal for Hartford. From close range, Lozada tried to squib a kick towards the far post but Lydia Kessel (4 saves) pounced on the ball and evaded the threat.
- Salvi found the back of the net after a deep feed from Casey Garfinkel. After the Hawks were called for a foul, Garfinkel booted a free kick from just beyond midfield. Salvi, standing on the right side of the box, snuck the game-tying score past a diving Maia Perez (4 saves) with a header.
- In double overtime, Julia Carr tried to end the game after tracking down a loose ball but the senior's attempt flew over the top left corner of the net.
NOTES
- UVM is off to its best start in conference play since 2005.
- Kessel's career unbeaten record (2-0-1) remains intact and she has only surrendered two goals in 380 minutes of action this season.
