BURLINGTON, Vt. – In a rematch of last year's America East Semifinal, the UVM women's soccer team found similar success as Brooke Jenkins scored the game-winning goal late in the second half and gave the Catamounts a 1-0 win over Binghamton in the conference opener on Sunday.

"It was nice to get a win at home today especially to open conference play," head coach Kristi Huizenga said. "The league is going to be very tight this year so to take advantage and get three points was excellent for us."
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

• Early in the match, Binghamton had a pair of chances from close range. Kayla Saager, the conference's leading scorer coming into America East play, had her shot blocked by a Catamount defender. Dora Hayes tracked down the rebound and fired a shot through traffic but the ball flew wide of the near post.  
• The Bearcats came out attacking on their first offensive possession of the second half. Kayla MacKenzie lofted a shot towards the far post but the ball bounced off the upright and UVM's defense cleared the scoring threat away.
• In the 53rd minute, Savana Yurick beat a pair of defenders inside the box and ripped a shot towards the top right corner of the net but the attempt ricocheted off the crossbar.
• Ella Bankert set up the game-winning play with a through ball from 30 yards out. She sent a feed into the right side of the box as Jenkins sprinted past Binghamton's backline. Jenkins finished the scoring chance with a low line drive that found the side netting.

NOTES

• UVM picked up its first win in a conference opener since 2015.
• Jenkins recorded the fifth game-winning goal of her Catamount career.
• Sunday's matinee was also Military Appreciation Day, presented by Milton Cat.
• With the victory, the Cats Win, Community Wins campaign and Vermont Mutual Insurance Group will donate another $100 to the Boys and Girls Club of Burlington, bringing this year's total to 71 wins and $7,100.
