COACH'S QUOTE
"I thought we played well, especially coming off a down performance like last weekend," head coach
Kristi Huizenga said. "We talked to the team after the game and it's nice to come up with the win, but more importantly they executed what we worked on in training very well."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Spencer came close to getting the Cats on the board in the opening minutes. The Tewksbury, Massachusetts native fired a long range shot but Siena goalie Taylor Dorado (5 saves) leaped and knocked the shot over the crossbar.
- UVM's defense made a big stop in the 14th minute. The Saints sent a dangerous cross from the right side of the field and Vermont keeper Lydia Kessel (6 saves) swatted the pass away. Deanna Lomino tried to finish the rebound but her shot flew over the crossbar.
- In the 63rd minute, Siena's Meghan Riccardi threaded the needle with a low shot but Kessel swooped in for the save and preserved scoreless tie.
- Spencer cashed in the penalty kick opportunity for the Catamounts in the 65th minute. On the kick, Dorado made the correct decision but Spencer drove a line drive into the bottom left corner of the net past the junior netminder.
NOTES
- Kessel earned her first career clean sheet in her first career start.
- Spencer's three penalty kick goals are the most by a UVM player in a single season during Huizenga's eight-year tenure.
- With the victory, the Cats Win, Community Wins campaign and Vermont Mutual Insurance Group will donate another $100 to the Boys and Girls Club of Burlington, bringing this year's total to 70 wins and $7,000.
