Weekly Honors: America East | Top Drawer Soccer
ENTERING THE TOP-25
UVM entered the United Soccer Coaches (USC) top-25 national rankings at No. 24 on Tuesday. The Catamounts cracked the top-25 after receiving votes in the last two weekly polls. The Cats are ranked in the United Soccer Coaches (formerly National Soccer Coaches of America Association) national poll for the first time since the 2016 campaign.
ON THE NATIONAL SCENE
In the national statistical rankings, the Catamounts sit sixth in total goals (15), eighth in scoring offense (2.50 goals per game), and 12th in total points (42).
Justin Freitas is ranked 15th in the country with 11 points. Fellow classmate
Geo Alves is positioned ninth in the nation with two game-winning goals and the dynamic duo are 25th in Division I with four goals apiece.
WEEKLY HONORS
Freitas and
Jon Arnar Barðdal earned weekly honors after guiding the Cats to a Peter Baldwin Memorial Classic title last weekend. Freitas was named America East Co-Offensive Player of the Week on Monday. The senior forward tallied five points with two goals and one assist in the tournament on his way to collecting the Most Valuable Player trophy. Like Freitas, Barðdal recorded five points as he landed on Top Drawer Soccer's Men's Team of the Week.
SCOUTING COLGATE
The Raiders climbed to No. 13 in the USC rankings through the first four games with a 3-0-1 record but fell at Air Force on Sunday. After the defeat, Colgate dropped out of the top-25 poll but received 23 votes this week. Colgate's scoring has come from all angles as 11 different players have logged a point. Ryan Krueger is one of six Raiders with one goal, but the freshman midfielder has also handed out an assist. Freddy Jonsson scored the game-winning goal in the season opener, a 1-0 shutout at Pittsburgh. In net, Jacob Harris has posted a 0.94 goals-against average and ranks third in the Patriot League with a pair of clean sheets.
INSIDE THE SERIES
Vermont and Colgate will resume the all-time series after a five-year hiatus. The Catamounts own an 8-4-2 mark against their non-conference foe. UVM has only surrendered one loss to Colgate since 2010, including a pair of double overtime draws.
