BURLINGTON, Vt. – The University of Vermont women's soccer team opened the 2018 campaign with a 2-2 double overtime draw with American on Sunday afternoon. The Catamounts start the season off with a 0-0-1 record while the Eagles stay unbeaten at 1-0-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Eagles broke a scoreless tie in the 31st minute. Gabriela Maldonado forced a turnover about 20 yards out and cashed in the breakaway opportunity after beating UVM keeper Kacy Lambertson (13 saves) to the near post.
- Aly Spencer answered for the Catamounts in the 34th minute with a penalty kick goal. The Catamounts forced a foul in the box to set up Spencer's equalizer. On the kick, the senior fired her shot over a diving Ryleigh Brown (4 saves)
- Spencer added her second penalty kick goal of the afternoon in the 56th minute. The Tewksbury, Massachusetts native lined the go-ahead attempt inside of the left post.
- American knotted the score up at 2-2 in the 67th minute with Yari Bradfield's first goal of the year. From midfield, Maldonado played a ball out wide to Emily Smith who sent a low cross into into the 18-yard box. Bradfield came charging in from the left side and hit a one-timer inside of the left post after fighting off a UVM defender.
- Near the end of regulation, Audrey Denkler had a chance to win it for the Eagles but her shot bounced off the crossbar
- In the second extra session, Spencer tried to complete the hat trick after lofting a shot towards the far post but her attempt bounced off the upright.

Vermont will host the TD Bank Classic next weekend at Virtue Field. The Catamounts will face St. Mary's (Calif.) on Friday (Aug. 24) at 7 p.m., then take on Marist on Sunday (Aug. 26) at 2:30 p.m. Fans can purchase tickets at
