LAST TIME OUT | Hartford Highlights
UVM suffered its first regular season conference loss in over two years as Hartford defeated Vermont 69-68 on Sunday afternoon at Patrick Gym.
Drew Urquhart recorded his second double-double of the season with a team-high 15 points and 10 rebounds. He was 6-of-8 from the floor with five assists and swatted away three shots.
Payton Henson and
Trae Bell-Haynes added 12 points apiece. Henson grabbed six boards and dished out a pair of assists. Bell-Haynes collected three rebounds and made all six trips to the line.
SENIOR NIGHT
Before Wednesday's game, UVM will honor its six seniors for Senior Night – presented by Aerie Consulting. The Class of 2018 includes
Trae Bell-Haynes,
Payton Henson,
Nate Rohrer,
Drew Urquhart,
David Urso, and
Cam Ward.
REGULAR SEASON TITLE
UVM is one win away from clinching at least a share of the America East regular season title. A victory over Binghamton and a loss by UMBC to Stony Brook would give the Cats the outright regular season championship. A conference regular season crown would be the eighth in program history - 2002, 2005, 2007, 2009, 2011, 2014, and 2017. With an eighth title, Vermont would tie Boston University for the second most in America East history, trailing only Northeastern (10).
THE BLOCK-ADE
Urquhart has established himself as one of the top shot blockers in the league. The senior has swatted away 21 shots against conference foes, which is tied with Maine's Isaiah White for the highest total. On Sunday, he recorded three blocks for the fifth time this season.
EMPIRE STATE OF MIND
Since the start of last season, Vermont is 15-1 against schools located in New York. The run includes victories over non-conference foes Marist, Hofstra and Siena while topping league rivals Albany, Binghamton, and Stony Brook.
RACE FOR 1,000
Vermont has two players closing in on 1,000 career points –
Ernie Duncan and Henson. Duncan is only 15 points shy of joining the 1,000-point club. Combined with his scoring totals from Tulane, Henson needs 29 points to surpass the mark. The redshirt senior scored 309 points in two seasons with the Green Wave before transferring to Catamount Country where he has racked up 662 points.
SCOUTING BINGHAMTON
The Bearcats sit one game behind Maine for the eighth and final playoff spot with a 2-11 conference record. Binghamton has the fourth-best overall defense in America East by holding its opponents to 70.5 points per game. In conference play, the Bearcats lead the league with 53 blocked shots. Binghamton has two of the top rebounders in America East play - Thomas Bruce and Willie Rodriguez. Bruce is pulling down 7.9 boards per game, the third best average in the conference, while Rodriguez is averaging 5.9 rebounds per contest. Bruce also ranks third in America East with 20 blocks. On the offensive end, J.C. Show is the 11th-best scorer during league play with a 14.4 scoring average.
INSIDE THE SERIES
The Catamounts have controlled the all-time series with the Bearcats and hold a 29-8 edge. UVM has won five straight and 15 of the last 17 overall dating back to 2010. From the 15 victories, the Cats have won by an average of 16.6 points per game. Last month, the Green and Gold set the America East record with its 320th regular season conference victory after beating Binghamton 68-54 in Vestal.
