UVM guaranteed itself with at least one home playoff game and a top-four seed in the upcoming America East Tournament with an 81-69 win over UMass Lowell on Sunday afternoon.
Trae Bell-Haynes recorded his sixth 20-point effort in conference play with a game-high 27 points. The senior point guard was 8-of-13 from the floor including 11-of-13 at the charity stripe.
Everett Duncan set a new career high with 13 points and matched his highest single game total with four triples.
Drew Urquhart and
Cam Ward followed with 13 points apiece as well. Urquhart was a perfect 6-for-6 from the field with six boards. Ward also grabbed six rebounds and tallied three steals.
RALLY AGAINST CANCER
Thursday night is UVM's annual 'Rally Against Cancer' game presented by Otter Creek Awnings and Vermont Custom Closets. The Catamounts will be wearing pink to support the efforts occurring at the University of Vermont Cancer Center. Fans are also encouraged to wear pink to show their support. The game-worn pink jerseys will be auctioned off at
UVMathletics.com/Auctions.
THIRD TIME'S THE CHARM
Bell-Haynes was named America East Player of the Week on Monday for the third time this season. The senior averaged 23.5 points, 4.5 assists, and 3.5 rebounds in a 2-0 week for the Catamounts. The point guard shot 50.0% (14-of-28) from the field and hit 17-of-19 attempts from the charity stripe. In Sunday's victory over UMass Lowell, the Toronto, Ontario native became only the ninth player in program history to score over 1,500 career points.
CATS IN THE RANKINGS
The Green and Gold received a vote in the Associated Press Top-25 Poll for the second straight week. For the third straight week, UVM was ranked at No. 7 in the Mid-MajorMadness.com Power Rankings and the Cats also moved up one spot to No. 9 in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top-25 Poll.
STREAKY CLEAN
UVM will try to extend a trio of streaks on Thursday. The Cats have won 32 straight regular season conference games, the longest active regular season conference winning streak in the country. Vermont's 21-game home winning streak is the nation's second-longest streak behind only Cincinnati (39 games), and the Green and Gold own the third-longest overall winning streak at 14 games.
SCOUTING NEW HAMPSHIRE
The Wildcats sit fifth in the league standings with an even 6-6 conference mark. On the glass, UNH owns the 14th-best rebounding margin in the nation at +7.2. In Sunday's loss to UMBC, Tanner Leissner became the school's all-time leading scorer. This season, Leissner ranks third among America East scorers with 18.9 points per game. The senior is tied with the fourth-best scoring average (17.9 ppg) alongside Bell-Haynes in conference play. Iba Camara is nearly averaging a double-double with 9.9 points and 11.0 boards per game this year. He ranks fourth in the country in defensive rebounds per game (8.5 drpg).
INSIDE THE SERIES
The twin state rivalry will add another chapter as the two programs will meet for the 151st time. Vermont holds a 102-48 all-time edge over New Hampshire, including a 55-13 mark in Catamount Country. The Green and Gold hold an eight-game winning streak over the Navy and White and the Cats have not lost in Burlington since Jan. 8, 2000. Since the turn of the century, UVM is 36-7 against UNH. Last month, the Catamounts came away with a 67-56 win in Durham behind a 20-point performance from Bell-Haynes.
