COACH'S QUOTE
"It was nice to have homecoming with alumni here and to get a big win at home," head coach
Kristi Huizenga said. "Our team is always a team that responds and we've had some adversity, like everybody does, and we're proud of how our team performed today."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Jenkins helped the Catamounts get on the scoreboard in the third minute. Alyssa Oviedo sent a low through ball into the penalty area for Jenkins, who fired the go-ahead score into the bottom left corner of the net.
- UMBC had a good chance to tie the game in the 16th minute but UVM keeper Kacey Lambertson (4 saves) made a diving save. Amberlina Arugbie tried to bend a shot under the crossbar but Lambertson jumped and knocked the potential equalizer over the crossbar.
- Vermont doubled its leads to 2-0 in the 53rd minute with Christina Barry's first goal of the season. Casey Garfinkel booted a corner kick into the center of the box and Barry knocked a header towards the near post. The ball bounced into the bottom right corner over the goal line just past the outstretched hands of UMBC goalie Jade Wilkins (4 saves).
- Jenkins added her second goal of the day in the 76th minute. From 30 yards out, Alexa Mihale played a ball into the center of the box. Jenkins stuck out her right foot and chipped a shot off the right post. The ball deflected off the upright and landed inches over the line for the score.
