COACH'S QUOTE
"This was a big six-point weekend for us," head coach
Kristi Huizenga. "It's not easy to win two on the road but we showed some character to dig out a win today in overtime. Maine is a tough team and we had to battle for every chance we got and were fortunate to have great finishes from Casey and Alyssa."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the 16th minute, Maine's Nicole Bailey intercepted a clear attempt near the top left corner of the box, took two dribbles, and fired a shot at the center of the net but UVM goalie Kacey Lambertson (4 saves) was in position for the easy save.
- The Catamounts came close to breaking the scoreless tie in the 20th minute. Ella Bankert sent a nice through ball into the right side of the box for Angie Salvi, but the sophomore's shot flew a foot over the crossbar.
- Casey Garfinkel gave the Cats a 1-0 lead in the 25th minute with a free kick. The senior hooked a perfectly-placed ball into the top left corner of the net from 20 yards out for her second goal of the season.
- The Black Bears tied the game in the 43rd minute off a corner kick. Amanda Sandberg lined a kick towards the near post and Jane Stevens flicked a right-footed shot off the crossbar.
- In the 68th minute, Oviedo chased down a feed on the left flank and chipped a left-footed shot to the far post, but Maine keeper Annalena Kriebisch (3 saves) recorded the save.
- Oviedo had another chance near the end of regulation. The freshman fought off two defenders near the penalty area and sent an attempt towards the right side of the net but Kriebisch dove to her left and deflected the shot away.
- In overtime, the Black Bears cleared away a corner kick from Garfinkel but the Catamounts tracked down the loose ball near midfield. Brooke Jenkins marched forward and sent a cross to the far side of the box where Oviedo knocked a header inside of the near post for the walk-off score.
