CATAMOUNTS RECAP
The Catamounts opened up conference play with consecutive wins for the first time since the 2009-10 season, which was the last season in which UVM made the NCAA Tournament. Most recently, Vermont topped UMBC 72-58 on Saturday, Jan. 6 in Baltimore, Maryland.

Hanna Crymble led the way against UMBC with 19 points (9-13 FG), four rebounds and two blocks. She was named the America East Co-Player of the Week due to her contributions against UMBC and UMass Lowell. It was the second time that the sophomore has won the award this season (she was the sole player of the week for the week ending on Nov. 19). Crymble has registered double-figures in the scoring column in 13 of the 15 games she has played in this season.

Additionally, Sydney Smith put forth another solid effort. The senior co-captain scored 18 points, grabbed two rebounds and dished out three assists. With four three-pointers against UMBC, Smith now stands alone for fourth place all-time on the UVM three-point field goal list (172). She surpassed her former teammate, Kayla Burchill '15, who hit 170 three-point shots in her career.

Cassidy Derda scored eight points and led the team with 10 rebounds. She connected on a pair of three-point field goals. Off the bench, junior Candice Wright scored five points, recorded six rebounds and blocked two shots. UVM's all-time leading shot blocker now has 125 blocks for her career.

SCOUTING STONY BROOK
Head coach Caroline McCombs is in her fourth season at the helm of the Seawolves and is second all-time in wins among Stony Brook head coaches in the program's Division I era. Prior to Stony Brook, McCombs was an assistant at the following universities: Auburn (2012-14), Northwestern (2010-12), Pittsburgh (2005-10) and Valparaiso (1999-2005).

This season, Stony Brook is 8-8 overall and 0-3 to begin America East play. The Seawolves are 5-3 at on their home court at Island Federal Credit Union Arena. Stony Brook has lost four games in a row.

Only two Seawolves are averaging double-figures in the scoring column through the first 16 games of the season: Shania Johnson (14.6 PPG) and Jerell Matthews (13.3 PPG). Cheyenne Clark is the team's leading rebounder (9.2 RPG).

INSIDE THE SERIES
UVM leads the all-time series 19-14. The first ever meeting was in Burlington on Jan. 24, 2002 and Vermont won that game by a final score of 71-59. The Catamounts won the first five battles in the series.

UVM has won three straight games against Stony Brook. Last season, the Catamounts won 53-43 at home (Jan. 28, 2017) and 57-43 on Long Island (Feb. 26, 2017).

In last year's game at Stony Brook, Candice Wright led the way for UVM with 23 points, six rebounds, four blocks and a steal. She went 8-11 from the field and 4-6 from downtown. In that same game, Crymble added 12 points, eight rebounds and two assists.

SCOUTING MAINE
The Black Bears are led by interim head coach Amy Vachon, who spent the final 18 games of the 2016-17 season at the helm of Maine's staff, after Richard Barron stepped aside due to health complications. Vachon guided the Black Bears to an 11-7 record to finish the season. She was named interim head coach for the 2017-18 campaign on April 5, 2017. This is Vachon's seventh year on the Maine staff.

As of Jan. 12, the Black Bears are 9-7 overall and 2-1 in America East play, with a 5-2 record at home inside the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor, Maine. Only two players average double-figures in scoring for the Black Bears: Blanca Millan (17.5 PPG) and Julie Brosseau (13.1 PPG).

In conference play, Maine is 1-1 at home: a win against Stony Brook (64-56) on Jan. 3 and a loss to Binghamton (66-62 in OT) on Jan. 6. The Black Bears won at UMBC (64-50) on Jan. 10.

INSIDE THE SERIES
As original members of the America East, Maine and Vermont have a lot of history with one another. UVM trails the all-time series 50-33. The Catamounts have played the Black Bears more than any other opponent in their 39 year history. This is the 84th all-time matchup between the two programs. Last season, Vermont won at home (55-52) but lost in Maine (59-43).

HISTORY BEFORE OUR EYES
Candice Wright's five blocked shots against Rider on Friday, Dec. 1 placed her in sole possession for first all-time on Vermont's career blocks list. The junior broke Katie McNamara's '05 record of 102 blocked shots on her first rejection of the contest. Wright has 125 blocked shots during her career through the victory over UMBC.

DIALING FROM LONG DISTANCE
With her four three-point field goals at UMBC, Smith sits fourth all-time with 172 career makes from long distance. She surpassed her former teammate, Kayla Burchill '15 (170).

Additionally, Kristina White is now seventh all-time in program history in three-pointers after passing UVM Hall of Famer Morgan Hall '03. The redshirt-senior co-captain has made 132 triples during her time in Burlington.

As a team, Vermont is averaging just over seven three-point makes per game. Out of UVM's 857 field goal attempts through the first 15 games of the season, just under 46% have come from behind the three-point arc. Individually, the most proficient three-point shooting Catamounts have been Crymble (39%), Derda (32%) and White (30%).

NEXT UP
After three straight road games, Vermont returns to Patrick Gym to host New Hampshire on Thursday (Jan. 18) at 7 p.m. The contest is just UVM's second home game of conference play and first meeting this season with the Wildcats.

As with every America East game, a video broadcast for the UVM-UNH game can be found online at ESPN3. Alastair Ingram and Bernie Cieplici have the call from Patrick Gym.

Additionally, Logan Ratick handles the radio broadcast for Vermont's first meeting with New Hampshire of the season. Pregame coverage for the Catamounts' battle with the Wildcats starts at 6:40 p.m., followed by the game at 7 p.m. on CatamounTV.com and News/Talk 620 WVMT-AM.
