Crymble's Career Performance Leads Catamounts Past Howard 88-65

FINAL SCORE: Vermont 88, Howard 65
BURLINGTON, Vt. – Hannah Crymble's double-double, which included 13 rebounds and a career-high 37 points, carried the Catamounts to a 23-point victory over the Howard Bison at Patrick Gymnasium on Friday evening. Crymble was just three points away from tying Vermont's all-time individual record for most points in a game (two players have 40-point performances).

To assist Crymble, Sydney Smith and Cassidy Derda each had productive games, scoring 16 points apiece. Smith shot 50% from the field (7-14 FG) and Derda hit 4-6 three-point shots (67%).

The Catamounts recorded their highest total for points in a quarter this season with 30 in the first. With Crymble leading the way, the Catamounts took a 51-30 lead into halftime. Vermont outscored Howard by just two points in the second half but won the game easily by a final margin of 88-65.

Along with her 37 points and 11 rebounds, Crymble went 10-11 at the free throw line (91%) and 13-20 from the floor (65%). She was the first Catamount to score 30+ points in a game since Sydney Smith did so against Quinnipiac on Nov. 28, 2015.

Junior forward Candice Wright failed to collect a block in the game, keeping her career total at 100. She needs just two more blocked shots to tie Katie McNamara '05 as the all-time leader in UVM history.

Howard received double-figure scoring performances from Curstyn Moore (12), Jayla Myles (10) and Tariah Johnson, who scored 11 off the bench. The Bison shot 21% from distance and 65% at the free throw line.

UVM out-rebounded Howard 51-33 and won the points-in-the-paint battle 44-28. The Bison did not manage a single fast-break point. Out of the 88 Catamount points, 20 came on second-chances.

The 88 Vermont points were also the most that the Catamounts have scored in a win since they beat UMass Lowell on December 1, 2013 at Patrick Gym.

"This was such an important game for us to truly get out mojo back," said head UVM head coach, Chris Day. "We have such great shooters that our early shooting slump was a big surprise! Hopefully we can keep this momentum into Sunday against a really good Columbia team."

The Catamounts improve to 2-2 on the 2017-18 regular season and 2-0 at home. With the loss, Howard fell to 0-3.

Vermont hosts three consecutive games before its next road trip, which includes the TD Bank Classic at Patrick Gym on Nov. 24 and 25

As Coach Day alluded to, the Columbia Lions come to Patrick Gym this Sunday, Nov. 19 at 2 p.m. for the final game before Thanksgiving. If you are unable to make it to the game, you can watch it online via ESPN3 by logging on through your cable provider. The contest can also be heard on WVMT-AM 620 and CatamounTV.com with Logan Ratick. Radio pregame coverage begins at 1:40 p.m.
