Kristina White paced Vermont with 14 points in the game, which was played in front of a Field Trip Day crowd of 1,742 fans.
Sydney Smith had 11 points and nine rebounds, while
Hanna Crymble drained 13 points of her own.
The Catamounts earned the game's first points after
Candice Wright drained a layup, but Albany quickly responded with a 15-0 run and held UVM scoreless for just over five minutes. That ultimately propelled the Great Danes to a 23-13 advantage by the end of the quarter.
As the teams returned from the halftime break it was Vermont that came out fast. In part helped by hot shooting from downtown, UVM clawed its way back from a 16-point second quarter deficit to narrow Albany's lead to only four. Smith, Wright and White (2) each buried from behind the arc, while six defensive rebounds and five Albany turnovers helped bring the Catamounts closer. However, UVM had challenges containing Imani Tate, who had 14 points in the period despite the Catamounts' best efforts.
The Green and Gold continued to battle through the final 10 minutes, but Albany stepped up to hold UVM to just 3-for-16 from the field. White moved the score to 59-53 with a three-ball at the 2:26 mark, but that would ultimately mark the squad's final bucket of the afternoon. Jessica Fequiere and Tate closed out the day with a 3-pointer and fast break layup, respectively.
Tate, the leading scorer in America East, had 29 points plus nine rebounds.
With Thursday's result, Albany improves to an even 10-10 on the season (4-3 AE), while the Catamounts are now 5-14 (2-5 AE).
UVM hosts Stony Brook at 2 p.m. on Saturday (Jan. 28) on You Can Play Day at Patrick Gymnasium.
