Â
After a scoreless first thirty minutes featuring four of Speckmaier's 11 saves, the Vermont offense broke through. In the 21
st minute, senior striker
Nikki McFarland beat her defender, drove towards a central defender and found
Savana Yurick who clipped the ball past the Buccaneer keeper for a 1-0 lead. It was Yurick's second goal of the season.
Â
Not a minute later, McFarland was back at it again creating a dangerous chance down the flank. She beat the left-back once more and slotted a pass to
Colby Snyder who spun her defender and tucked the ball into the corner for a 2-0 lead. Snyder has now scored goals in back-to-back games.
Â
The Cats extended their lead right after halftime, earning a corner kick in the 49
th minute.
Sarah Martin's left-footed cross found the forehead of
Caitie Green who rose up and above the CSU defense to power a header home. Green's second goal of the season made it 3-0 with forty minutes to play.
Â
Charleston Southern cut into the lead on a Jordan Newman goal in the 61
st minute but it was
Coco Speckmaier who stole the show in the final thirty. The junior from Miami made four more saves during that final stretch including one with under eight minutes to play and the Cats held on from there.
