BURLINGTON, Vt. – Lauren Descalzo's hat trick led seven Bulldogs in the scoring column as Bryant opened the 2016 season with an 11-7 in over Vermont in women's lacrosse action at Virtue Field on Monday. The Bulldogs move to 1-0 on the year, while Vermont falls to 0-1 to start the 2016 season.

The Bulldogs rattled off three straight tallies to take a 4-1 lead. Vermont's Jenna James stopped the rally with her first collegiate goal at the 7:37 mark and
Alex Bernier finished a feed from
Marjorie Dehm with just over four minutes left in the half to slice the lead to one, 4-3. Bryant would take the one-goal advantage into halftime.
UVM quickly evened the score again on
Brynne Yarranton's first goal as a Catamount to open the second half.
The Bulldogs responded with four straight, including a pair from Descalzo to push out to an 8-4 lead. Vermont clawed its way back within two behind a pair of goals from Moore and one from Bernier, but Bryant was able to gain possession on the ensuing draws and Laura Fullham and Britton put away shots on an empty net.
Maddy Kuras made her collegiate debut in net for the Catamounts and finished the afternoon with 12 saves. Samantha Santeramo made nine saves for Bryant to pick up her first victory of the season.
Vermont closes out a two-game season-opening homestand on Saturday when it hosts Colgate at 12 p.m. at Virtue Field. Saturday's game will be streamed online for free via AmericaEast.tv.
