BURLINGTON, Vt. – Freshman
Hanna Crymble posted a double-double and the Vermont women's basketball team trailed for just 12 seconds en route to a 71-55 victory over Saint Michael's on Saturday afternoon in exhibition action at Patrick Gymnasium.

Crymble led all scorers with 24 points and was one of three Catamounts to reach double figures in that category. Both
Sydney Smith and
Hayley Robertson added 10 points each.
After Leah Spencer recorded the game's opening points for the Purple Knights, Vermont used a 7-0 run to gain an early first quarter lead. Smith marked the scorebook with four points in the sequence, while Robertson added three of her own. Robertson drained a three-pointer in the waning seconds of the period to give UVM a 16-12 advantage at quarter's end. The Catamounts also posted a 5-for-5 mark from the free throw line.
UVM complimented its early success at the charity stripe by making all six free throws awarded in the second quarter. Crymble recorded Vermont's first five points of the frame, sinking a pair of free throws in the opening minutes and then adding a three-pointer at then 7:53 mark. She finished the half atop her teammates with 12 points.
The Catamounts constructed a mini-run in the closing minutes of the half, draining five consecutive points courtesy of Crymble (3) and
Kylie Butler (2).
Lauren Handy ultimately sent Vermont into the locker room with a 37-32 advantage after drawing a foul in the quarter's final second and making both subsequent free throws.
The game's final period saw Vermont reach its largest lead, gaining a 19-point advantage over the Purple Knights with 4:33 remaining. Shortly after Crymble locked up the double-double at the the 7:01 mark with her 10th board,
Katie Lavelle set up
Candice Wright for a jumper to put the game out of reach.
Spencer also finished with a double-double for Saint Michael's, chipping in 23 points and 11 boards for the Purple Knights.
UVM also dominated Saint Michael's at the free throw line, making its first 12 shots and finishing 16-for-23 on the afternoon.
Vermont opens the regular season in just under a week, hosting Bryant University on Friday, Nov. 11 for a 7 p.m. tilt at Patrick Gymnasium.
