ABOUT VERMONTVermont (6-12, 1-4) snapped a five-game skid and claimed its first conference win on Monday at UMass Lowell.
UVM went 22-for-22 from the foul line against the River Hawks and set an NCAA single-game record this season for free throw percentage. Vermont is one of only five teams to shoot 100-percent from the line as a team this year.
The Catamounts' perfect execution from the charity stripe also matched a 12-year UVM record for free throw percentage set in 2004 against Albany. It marked the second time Vermont was perfect from the line this year, as it went 11-for-11 against Delaware on Dec. 22.
UVM blocks the most shots in the conference, totaling 90 on the season, and ranks 29th nationally. As a team, the Catamounts average at least 5.0 blocks per game and post 6.5 swats in games that result in a Vermont win.
Â
Vermont's starters have played a key role for the Catamounts offensively this season. The starting lineup scores over 70-percent of UVM's points, averaging almost 40 of Vermont's 56.3 points per game. The starters also dish out 80-percent of the Catamounts' assists.
LAST TIME OUTFueled by a perfect 22-for-22 performance at the foul line, Vermont snapped a five-game skid with its first conference win at Costello Gym against the UMass Lowell River Hawks 59-51 on Monday afternoon.
Â
Andreana Thomas was a single point shy of her career-best as she scored a game-high 25 points in the victory. She went a season-best 9-for-9 at the foul line and pulled down six rebounds.
Sydney Smith matched Thomas' six rebounds and recorded nine points while
Kylie Atwood added 12 points for Vermont.
Candice Wright was able to find Thomas behind the arc for a long 3-pointer early on, igniting a 9-1 Catamount run over the River Hawks. UVM and UMass Lowell were knotted at 12 apiece after one quarter.
The River Hawks clawed back from the 14-point deficit in the fourth quarter and cut it to a single-possession game with two minutes left to play. The Catamounts responded by connecting on eight consecutive free throws, including three perfect trips from Thomas, to secure Vermont's first league win.
SCOUTING THE BEARCATSUVM welcomes Binghamton (7-10, 2-2) to Patrick Gym on Thursday after the Bearcats fell to first-place Albany on Monday, 59-47. Senior guard Kim Albrecht scored a game-high 20 points, marking the third time this season that she has reached the 20-point mark in scoring. She also added five rebounds, two assists and a pair of steals.
Freshman guard Rebecca Carmody was also tabbed America East Rookie of the Week for the second time this season after her performance against Hartford on Jan. 13. While owning a near-perfect record at home, going 6-1 at Dr. Bai Lee Court at the Events Center, the Bearcats are 1-9 on the road this season. They have notable conference wins against New Hampshire and Hartford, while falling to Stony Brook and Albany.
Â
Alyssa James leads Binghamton in scoring, averaging 16.7 ppg and 8.8 rpg and accounts for 57 of the Bearcats 75 total blocks this season. James ranks third in the America East in scoring, fourth in rebounding and leads the league with three blocks per game.
SERIES HISTORYUVM leads the all-time series 20-9 against the Bearcats and Thursday marks the 30th meeting between the schools since 2002. Vermont and Binghamton split the regular season series last year as the Catamounts fell on the road 73-62 and topped the Bearcats at Patrick Gym 72-66 in February. Vermont is 10-3 against Binghamton when playing on its home court.
Â
LAST TIME VS. THE BEARCATSIn their most recent matchup last February, UVM picked up its first conference win of the 2014-15 season while
