PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Vermont and Brown men's soccer teams played through 110 scoreless minutes of soccer as the match ended in a 0-0 draw. Vermont moves to 5-2-1 overall, while Brown is 2-3-2 on the season.
"Both teams were committed to winning the game. It came down to us defending really well on set pieces," said Vermont head coach
Jesse Cormier. "Brown is dangerous on set pieces and made a conscious effort in training to focus on defending those. It was a big step for us in that area. On the other side, I thought we lost a little bit on the attack, I thought we could have been more dynamic. But overall getting a point on the road and a clean sheet against a program like Brown is a positive. I'm proud of the effort, we just need to refine our attack."
The Catamounts held a 13-8 advantage in shots in the match, while the Bears owned a 12-6 edge in corner kicks.
Brown's best scoring opportunity in the regulation came in the second half with just over nine minutes left. A shot had to be tipped over the crossbar by UVM goalkeeper
Conor Leland.
With 5:48 left in the match,
Bernard Yeboah's header was stopped with a diving save by Brown goalkeeper Mitch Kupstats.
Jaime Miralles also had a breakaway opportunity for the Catamounts, but pushed his shot just wide of the net.
In the opening minute of the second overtime period, Leland was able to breakup a threatening scoring chance by Brown. He came off his line and was able to punch the ball away.
Leland was credited with two saves in the Vermont net and picked up his 15th career shutout. Kupstats made seven stops for Brown.
Vermont returns to action on Sunday when it travels to New Britain, Connecticut to face Central Connecticut at 1 p.m. in the final non-conference road game of the regular season. Links to live stats and free live video are available at
