TEANECK, N.J. – Fairleigh Dickinson scored three times in the second half to post a 3-0 victory over visiting Vermont in non-conference women's soccer action on Friday night.
After a scoreless first half, the Knight registered the first goal of the game just 1:26 into the half. Carly Tice collected a ball in the midfield took a few touches and blasted a shot from just outside the arc of the penalty box into the upper right corner of the net to give FDU a 1-0 lead.
Tice struck again in the 55th minute sending a strong shot to the far post that was knocked in by a UVM defender trying to clear the ball off the goal line.
Rachel Hoekstra pushed FDU's lead to three goals with her fifth tally of the year in the 73rd minute.
Coco Speckmaier was credited with three saves in the Vermont net, while Felicia Burr made four stops for Fairleigh Dickinson. FDU held a 15-10 advantage in shots in the game, but the Catamounts led with a 4-1 edge in corner kicks.
Fairleigh Dickinson improves to 5-3, while Vermont falls to 2-5-1 overall.
The Catamounts will complete a stretch of three games in five days when they host Dartmouth on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at Virtue Field. The game will be the second half of a soccer doubleheader as the UVM men face Hofstra at 12 p.m.
