BRONX, N.Y. – Kate McDonnell scored in the 85th minute to lift the Fordham Rams past Vermont, 1-0, in non-conference women's soccer action on Friday.
With the loss the Catamounts suffer their first defeat of the season, moving to 2-1 overall. Fordham improves to 2-1 on the season.
The teams played to a scoreless tie in the first 45 minutes.
In the closing minutes of regulation, McDonnell headed in a cross from Carlie Wagner off a second service on a corner kick opportunity. The goal would stand up for the Rams as they picked up their second straight win of the season.
Ally Ramos was credited with two saves in the Vermont net, while Megan Fitzgerald and Ally White combined to make four saves for Fordham.
Vermont returns to action on September 5 and 7 when it travels to Hamilton, New York to take on Colgate and Syracuse.
