ALBANY, N.Y. – Leanne Miller scored twice and Alexa Schneider added three assists to lead the Albany Great Danes to a 6-0 victory over visiting Vermont in America East Women's Soccer action at Bob Ford Field on Sunday.
Albany improves to 2-1 in America East (5-7-2 overall), while Vermont falls to 1-2 in league play and 3-8-1 on the year.
Albany opened the scoring early. Caitlyn Paltsios put back a rebound off Krista Fitzpatrick's corner kick just 2:30 into the match.
The Great Danes struck again off another corner kick opportunity with just four seconds remaining in the half. Miller netted her first goal of the game, firing in a rebound as the ball caromed in a scramble off the corner.
Albany opened the second half just like the first, scoring in the opening minutes. Miller added her second goal of the match finishing off a pass from Kiana Rugar and tucking the shot inside the left post at 47:29.
Vivan Vega finished off a breakaway opportunity after receiving a long through pass from Scheneider in the 58th minute to push Albany's lead to 4-0. It was Vega's team-leading eighth goal of the year.
Albany added its fifth goal of the game in the 61st minute. Rugar beat the UVM defense and scored on a shot from 15 yards out.
Allison Carhart rounded out the scoring for the Great Danes, tacking on the final goal in the 87th minute with a rebound off a save by UVM goalkeeper
Coco Speckmaier.
Speckmaier, who played the final 22 minutes, combined with
Ally Ramos to make 10 saves. Ramos made nine stops before being relieved in the Vermont net. Alana Brenna was credited with two stops for Albany. The Great Danes finished the match out shooting Vermont 25-14 and held a 7-4 advantage in corner kicks.
Vermont returns to action on October 9 when it travels to Maine for a 7 p.m. match. The game will be streamed online for free via
