ORONO, Maine – The Vermont Catamounts and Maine Black Bears played to a 1-1 double-overtime draw on Thursday night at Mahaney Diamond in America East women's soccer action. UVM was forced to play the final 50 minutes of the match with 10 players.
Vermont moves to 3-8-2 overall and 1-2-1 in America East. Maine is 3-6-4 on the year and 1-0-3 in league play.
Vermont struck first, scoring in the 28th minute.
Rylee Osgood stripped the ball from a Maine defender and fired a shot on the Maine net. Claudia Dube-Trempe made the initial save on Osgood's shot, but the rebound fell to
Bre Pletnick who was able to put back the carom for her first goal of the season.
The Black Bears evened the score with 18 seconds left in the half. Maine was awarded a penalty kick and Charlene Achille stepped up to convert the attempt.
Neither team was able to find the game-winning tally through the rest of regulation or the two overtime periods.
Ally Ramos was credited with eight saves in the Vermont net, while Dube-Trempe made seven stops for Maine. The Black Bears held a 14-3 edge in corner kicks and 18-13 advantage in shots in the match.
Vermont returns to action on Sunday when it hosts UMass Lowell at 1 p.m. at Virtue Field. The game will be streamed online for free in HD via CatamounTV.com. Tickets can be purchased online at UVMathletics.com or in person one hour before kickoff at the Gutterson Fieldhouse Box Office.
